Default Dynoed the G8 today with the new cam

I took my car to Performance Autosport today and had Frost dial in the tune for the new cam. He did an amazing job as usual getting the most power out of it and working on the drivability so it is civil on the street. Even without a converter it doesnt surge or buck. It barely pushes the brakes at a stop but it is very managable. It put out 434/404 to the wheels. Supporting mods are Kooks LT headers and x-pipe, SLP powerflows, NEP OTR intake, ported intake manifold, and UDP. I am very happy with it overall. Traction is a thing of the past in 1st and 2nd gear. Next mods will be a converter and drag radials.

I was having a difficult time scanning the dyno graph but here it is.
The old cam is the lowest curve on the graph. The car picked up power and torque everywhere. The biggest gain was at 3500 rpm where it picked up 50rwhp and 65 ftlbs.

New Texas Speed Cam specs are 229/236 .624/.615 111 LSA
Old cam was a New Era high lift DOD cam 224/232 .570/.570 113 LSA

LMAO! I tried to scan it 4 different times and every time it would cut off the rest of the graph. It is certainly a handful to drive. The 19" street tires are all but useless in 1st and 2nd. I need some drag radials.

Hmm. I'm going from the 224/228 .536/.537 to the raptr 236/242 .615/.617. I put down 400 rwhp with the 224/228. What rwhp gain you think I may see? So you gained over 50? That's awesome

My car also had DOD which I deleted when going to the new cam. I would imagine you would gain somewhere between 20-40rwhp depending on what other mods you have. Primarily head work and intake manifold selection.

It's hard to believe that an aftermarket cam can replace another aftermarket grind and still gain EVERYWHERE under the curve, especially the large gain that this showed.

Is it true that aftermarket DOD cams are lift limited? It's possible that eliminating the DOD was mandatory based on the new cam specs.

yes! and this new cam is DOD delete vs. the older DOD cam. I still did not expect such a drastic gain EVERYWHERE under the curve. The new cam made a pile of tq at every point in the curve compare to the last.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I'm also curious about how fuel efficiency compares between an aftermarket cam that retains DOD and a larger DOD delete cam that's been fully optimized.

OP - Would you mind reporting back with your highway MPG with your new cam? This is assuming you can keep your foot out of it long enough

Excellent results!!

Displacement On Demand. It's a fuel saving system that shuts down half of the cylinders under cruising conditions. My understanding is that the lifters that are used in this system will not work with "high lift" camshafts.

DOD is worthless. I had different tunes to turn it on and off even before installing a cam. I find that with DOD off I get 1-2 mpg better around town and the same mpg highway. Currently with the DOD delete cam I get about 17 mpg around town and as high as 28 mpg highway. With the DOD cam I had DOD disabled as well so the mpg was about the same. DOD just makes the car sound like crap and respond slowly to throttle. If I ever buy another GM vehicle with DOD it will be the first thing to go. Also the DOD lifters are weak and prone to fail even in stock applications much less with a high lift cam.

Thanks for the feedback. You basically confirmed my suspicions.

His numbers will drop with an aftermarket converter.
