On another note I get a ping noise every time I shift directional gears (From P to anything, from Reverse to drive, from neutral to drive, etc) I believe is the U-joints. I also get a tapping feeling in the gas pedal while accelerating. I dont believe its related but you never know.

What do you guys think?

hey guys im having some rear end problems with my 98 trans am. for the last few weeks i have noticed a popping sound when i take off slowly from a dead stop, as well as when i slow the car down and nearly stop. the car only starts to make this noise however after it has had a chance to warm up after being driven down the road a little ways. the car has the posi trac rearend as i assume all cars like this do, this one however did come with traction control. i have talked to several friends of mine with similar ls1 cars, and i have got a couple different possible causes. one is that the tcs may be going out, i tend to doubt this seeing as how the car is now only spinning one wheel (the right rear) and i dont see how the traction control going out could cause a popping noise. the other suggestion, is that my positive traction unit has gone out. my question to you guys is 1. is this the probable cause and is there a kit that can be ordered to fix it or does each individual part have to be ordered. and 2. could there be another cause for this noise and my car only spinning one wheel? thanks for taking the time to read this and to respond, i appreciate any and all feedback.

I recently bought summit 4.10 gear in a move from the stock 3.42 that have already been rebuilt once. 99k miles on M6. I have set the pinion shim to 0.020" and backlash to 0.009". I feel that I need to take some pinion shim out and move to 0.015". I checked the pattern and think it is not that good. I know the axle housing can mess with the the pattern and the flank to face is the major concern in the setup. I am just not happy with the set up. Plan to rework some more.
Any thoughts on the pattern? Thanks

The problem i am having is that when i left off the gas and turn the steering wheel towards the right while making a turn, the rear end makes a weird grinding noise. And the farther towards the right i turn the louder the noise gets. It sounds like the posi unit but I'm not sure. And this only happens when making right turns while the car is decelerating. Does anyone know whats happening or how to fix it?? Any help or comments would be great!!
