We will get into how it broke later.

But for now, I'm pricing a new one.

What are some good suggestions?

I need a LJ 350 mains crank, 1 piece rear main, internal balance, 3.75 stroke, 5.7 rods.

Cross-drilled mains: Good? Bad? Pros? Cons?

4340? Cast steel? 4140? (I think) Which would be my best solution?

BTW: I was hearing no stranger noises. Driving to work, very casually. I came over a hill, and started to feel a vibration. BAD, then it was gone. Like 75ft later, I had to push the clutch in to stop. It was then, that I felt horrible shaking/clunks in my clutch pedal. THe truck stalled, I cranked it back up. I was making horrible noises, making 2lbs of oil pressure, and would not idle.

Luckily work was only 1/4 mile away, So I babied it along back roads and parked it.

Trailered it home, as I backed it off the trailer, my friend noticed that the balancer was bouncing around. I quickly backed it off the trailer. The balancer was WAY from being straight. So I pulled the belt off, and drove it into the shop. Then we dropped the pan, No metal shavings in the oil. But When I would "tap" the oil filter, silver oil was coming out. (guess it was doing it's job) lol

The crank snapped just in front of the 1 rod journals.

Pulled the motor out, and the first half of the crank also.

I feel CONFIDENT in saying that this is/was a defective crank.

As shown by the pictures, there is only a small amount of the crank that was connected. IE the shiny parts of the metal. The rest, I would assume should have been connected. (save for the oil hole)

It also rubbed the block/cap. But I'm not sure if it is bad enough to really worry too much about. The most I think it might need is line-bored.

Somehow my cam died?!?!?! The fuel pump cam is flat.
I checked all of the bolts figured maybe I'm a dumbass and put one it that was too long. NOPE, the fuel pump/plate bolts were from a kit. and the correct size.
Neither of the holes on the face of the motor went in deep enough to even see the push rod?

Weird.

I guess my next move is to contact Eagle and see whats up.

FML. LOL. I'm trying to keep me head up, keep telling myself this is all just a big excuse for a bigger cam.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put this, but this is the most knowledgable forum i know of. so here goes.

I have a 91 Caprice LO3 305 tbi w/ 142k... This car has meticulous maintenance records. Everything just about has been replaced. Since I acquired this car about 2 weeks/ 60 miles ago, I have put a new knock sensor, wires, fuel filter,I have some plugs to put in it tommorrow. had it timed. but no matter what something does not seem right with it.
the egr valve compresses without sticking, throttle body is clean, injectors spray looks good, vacuum lines all look good, new 02 sensor, new starter, intake gasket was replaced last year, cap and rotor were replaced at some time, they didnt look bad,

it stalls and pings, under a load while in gear. I was told the timing chain is "probably" stretched by the mechanic that timed it. he was saying the timing mark was jumping around 8*. I took off the distributor cap and turned the crank by hand to see if the rotor was spinning right with the crank and it was fine there was no noticable lag between the two not even a hair off.

the best way to describe starting it, is it hiccups and if i give it a very light pedal it will start after several attempts. I have no idea what else to throw at this car. if anyone has any suggestions please let me know i want to blow this car up.

I've been working on a 91 RS 305 Camaro for my brother and at first the car was just not running right and before i could get it running good the stupid thing decided to break something else and i can't figure it out.

I'm pretty sure it's a wiring issue since about 90% of the time it wont even try to crank and some times it starts rite up.

An heres the kicker, last night when i was checking wiring last night i checked the thick yellow wiring under the dash ( i've been told to check this by alot of third gen guys) and it had power, i checked the wiring to the Neutral safety switch and had power.. So just to double check everything i just did i tried to check everything again and no power to any of it?!?!?! WTF is wrong with this stupid a$$ car.. I'm about to tell my brother we just need to sell everything off this car and start from scrath with a LSx swap and a custom wirring kit..

Any one have any ideas what could be cause this?!?!? VATS?!?!?!

One question is on the cam. I have listed the specs on the cam below.

All specs are @.050"-lift
-.594/.594 lift
-112 LSA
-242/240 int/exh duration
-17* valve overlap

I'm just wondering if it would be too big to run on the street. I'm gonna be running a 2800 stall and 3.73 gears with a built 4L60E.

The other thing is on my EFI setup. I'm gonna be modifying the stock harness and getting my ECM reflashed to work with a Vortec 5.7 tune. Instead of using the stock Vortec intake, I'm gonna wire it up using individual injectors and the Stealth Ram intake. Does anyone foresee any problems with this? I'm hoping to be :drive: by summertime...

I'm looking for a forged flat top piston that will provide about 10.0 to one compression with a 74cc head. I would like to have a quench of about .035, and need to know what deck height and gasket combination will give me this with the piston I choose.

This will be for a street driven car. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I have a ported head vortec 350 with a nice hyd roller camshaft in my 96 Firebird. The other day I had some trouble with the carb loading up really rich when I cam to a stop and the car died. I killed the ignition whitch in turn kills the fuel pump and got out to asess the situation. When I pulled the carb scoop off I realized that fuel seemed to be boiling out of the venturis and idle air bleeds and into the motor.

Has anyone seen this before? Do you think that lowering the float bowls might help at all?

Any suggestions taken seriousely.

This is currently how my car sounds. Im taking these mufflers off and going with single chamber flowmasters. I thought an h-pipe might help in the sound department. What do you guys think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFZf362pEto

hello I was given a small block,4 boltmain,new crank,10to 1 flat top pistons
wicked cam, headers, shaved crank, all arp fasteners, but it is fuel injecter, with new large injectors, new larger throttle body, oversive valves, polish and ported.new distributor, and a painless wire harness so I can put it anywhere, maybe even the garbage as I am not a car guy yet.I really like the way a hirise manifold and holly look, nice and clean.and I was wondering what it would take to swap over to carberation and the cost involved. He told me the engine has about 375 horse, and torque as hell.he told me he has modified corvette engine mounts and can still break engine mounts at will.He snapped the frame and had to have it boxed, and also has had a heavy duty transmission built for the car.after he blew his twice.should I change??
thanks for all your input.

If you look at his pictures they are the same exact pics for BOTH ford and chevy. I bought item # 190341894536 and recieved a dipstick and tube that looks nothing like it. Seller took back, says its not his cheap cra* and kept it. I only bought one dipstick and thats from him. I'm guessing its a ford tube, it has no enlarged stop where it goes in block. Looked like they would be hard to check your oil also because dipstick seating on tube takes alot of effort and wiggling to get it fullly seted on robber groumet. Also whats your opinion on having the dipstick internal parts chrome plated? Could that peel / chip off and end up in your engine?
would anyone have GM part # for OEM tube and dipstick for my 69 350 ?
I think to many people buy stuff on e-bay they don't use right away and leave good feedback for Items they latter have problems.
I know this is a long shot but I figured I would try.
