I guess thats true, I need to switch to tallboys for more of a workout I guess
Been moving kind of slow but I got the dash back in, just figuring what I am going to use for gauges. I went with the vinyl seat covers on the kirkey seats instead of the usual cloth this time around, they look like genuine imitation leather so they dont look too bad in the car but I bet they will be a little rough in the sun..
Can finally get up off the creeper so I did the fuel system today, one thing with any FI car is a good fuel system. I was going to keep the stock tank and do dual walbros but the nasty tank/magnafuel 4303 pump was 100% rock solid on my old car. I just used -8 feed and the stock feed line for a return, at least I can put the rear end back in and measure for the driveshaft.
Next its time to pull the engine, get under the hood cleaned up, do the line lock/abs delete, k-member/a-arms and bleed the brakes.
Then its on to the gauges/shifter then intercooler and pipes.
So far no major problems or holdups on parts, its going together pretty smooth so far, should be done by the end of February if I dont lose interest before then
Awesome. Good to hear. Now I just need to figure out the whole PCM issues
I ran 9.30s or so on the stock 98 PCM and a rigged tune. The car drove just fine but I had to make to make changes to the tune when the weather changed, not really a big deal with the newer software since it takes like 20 seconds and there is little chance of killing the PCM like the old LS1edit days.
I had 4 tunes that I swapped out from winter to summer and it worked surprisingly well, only downside was if I was index/bracket racing and the DA changed quick. But to most people half a tenth isnt going to be a big deal as long as you keep the tune on the safe side.
Little chilly in the garage today but I got the rear end in for good this time. Also picked up a cool little gadget, its a tach, OBD display, shiflight and wideband display (LC-1 plugs into it) all in one. Plus it even logs and plays back graphs of four parameters, its kind of ricey I guess but it actually works pretty well for what it is, I had it in my TBSS for a couple days playing with it.
On to the front of the car, time to pull the engine I guess..

Good work kp! I know it must be cold there, it was down in the teens here last night in SC
If you loose interest while you are building it, I will send you a knife so you can stab yourself

KP, you will have to post up the total cost to go 9.60s. What all are you re-using?? Heads, cam, and tranny-convertor from old car? Looking good so far, that tach is trick.

Total cost (including the car) will be around 32K for parts after selling some stuff of this car. My mistake with this one was trying to save a few dollars and buy a car with some mods, I would have saved at least 5K starting with a clean stock car since most of the stuff on this car I wont be re-using. Only thing I will be using from this car will be the cam, blower/SDCE and body.
Trans and converter, alternator, injectors and fuel rails are the only thing left from my old TA I'll be using. I'm just going to use some Patriot or whatever cheap heads I can find when go to put the engine together.

Na, just braided to the stock feed line used for the return, -8 braided for the feed line.
32K not bad for essentially a whole new set up. It will be a nice street car, you still keeping the back seat for the little one?

Granted you could build a decent 9.50 nitrous mustang for 1/2 the money probably, its really not bad considering everything is new and ots all nice parts. I also added the price of the trans/converter into the total. it will be a nice car when its done and should good for 2-3 years without really doing anything except changing oil and tires.
I wont be street driving it much if any, the kids have little interest in it really and I have even less interest driving it around here. This area has a lot of great curvy mountain roads and if I was to build a 'street' car it would be more of a handling/braking car than a drag style car. I was going to keep all the stock seats but I decided for safety reasons to put the Kirkeys in, sitting in the rear seat isnt a good idea with a roll bar in the car anyhow so thats out as well.
Its going to end up pretty much like the black car but with a 6pt bar and a stock PCM instead of a BS3. All it will take is a 10pt and it will be NHRA 8.50 legal so its a fairly easy upgrade path if I choose to do so..
Spent some time cleaning the front up today, this is the worse oil leaking LS1 I ever seen, nasty..
Stuck the new k-member and a-arms on just so I didnt have to deal with the oil soaked stocker and also to make sure everything fits OK so no surprises when I put the new engine in. This UMI k-member is a stout piece and fits like OE, but its not the lightest one out there thats for sure. The moly UMI a-arms are very nice as well.
Time to pull the engine I guess, been lazy and trying to avoid it
