Post Stock Bottom & Boost - Reliability List

I am wanting to make a comparative list of how long the LS1 stock bottom end has lasted under boost and eventually make it a sticky. Generally I see everyone say 550rwhp, I just want to see how valid this statement roughly is.

So the people I want to reply in the thread are ones who have ran boost on a stock bottom end (pistons, rings, rods). Even if you broke something in the motor, still post up. Post only cars you own(ed).

Here is the format I'd like to see it in:
- Type of Forced Induction (Turbo/Supercharger)
- Boost Amount / RWHP
- Miles on the car when FI installed
- Miles ran since FI has been on the car (ie: current mileage)
- IF you broke the motor, list what was broken.

Here's a start on what usually breaks.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...ottom-end.html

I run 8#s on a stock LS1 with 85,000 miles.Car goes 127 in the 1/4 so not making big power.Single T70 turbo.Maybe 3000 miles boosted.

I will create a list once I get a decent amount of entries. Thanks .
- STS Rear-mount Turbo with FMIC, CC228 cam on a 116LSA, and 317 heads.
- 5PSI
- 18K miles when installed
- 37K miles when removed.

Never broke anything in motor. Only wear noted on engine H/C swap afterwards was excessive wear on forward-most cam bearing. Cylinders, pistons etc had some carbon buildup, but were otherwise in excellent shape.

Car dynoed 453RWHP/ 432RWTQ with a 11.1 to 1 AFR on a 2-bar SD tune.

-Front mount TC-76 turbocharger
-9-10psi
-installed at 26k miles
-still going strong at 32K miles

car runs 3650LBS and traps 128 so its a good amount of power through a stock bottom end

76gts
~12 psi (added 317's)
55,000
at 60,000 now
still running fine, plan on pulling it out that way this spring for a forged bottom end

the motor held up to a good amount of high IAT's and knock because my IC was past its capabilities this year and I just kept pushing it but it held up...guess I was just lucky.

D1SC with FMIC, 224/227 .560/.560 114lsa cam, full exhaust
11psi
65,000
65,750
Broken ring lands on #7

Never had it on the dyno. I tried to tune it myself on the street with EFI Live and it ran hard while it lasted which wasn't long. First sign of trouble was when it started blowing the dipstick up under boost.

P1SC with a FMIC with 10 pounds of boost for over 3 years (525 rwhp)
Had over 80,000 miles when I went Procharger
Built a forged engine when the stock engine had about 120,000 miles. Never had an issue with the engine and boost

Daily driver with no 1/4 time.
Now the tranny...

my 5.3L calculated with my ET/mph to 640HP car weighs 3660 w/ me in it, and 10.30 @ 131mph, I cant build a lot of boost off the line and it dont hit full boost till after the 60ft, im also blowing through my converter higher RPMs than I should going through the traps at 7500.. 3.50 gears w/ 29.5" tall tires. So im sure it makes more HP than it calculates out to.

Stock 5.3L shortblock (junkyard.. mileage unknown)
15psi boost
50hp shot of nitrous.
Living strong going on 3 years.

I guess it would be silly but I would like to see someone go for just forged pistons and see how much power they could make.I'm still surprized you don't hear on any broken stock rod bolts and yet a lot of people think it's critical to replace them.I think the tune is the most critical part in keeping a stocker alive.

Good tune and fuel and the rods will go first. Dave has been at 825whp with his Lq9 for 3k mi or so (one season, w/ a couple of dry street winter rides already lol).

- Type of Forced Induction - APS Twin Turbo
- Boost Amount - 7psi (made 508rwhp/513rwtq)
- Miles on the car when FI installed - 89k
- Miles ran since FI has been on the car - Put it in storage with 105k on it. I DD the heck out of the thing in the warmer months.

The car traps 126 in the 1/4. I ONLY run street tires at the moment because of the 10bolt so can't launch too hard. The tires are my fuse. And this is also my DD so I am very happy with it. It runs whatever it runs at the track.

mods in sig...
Stock LS2 short block has never been out of the car... now 761rwhp 645rwtq on boost only (no N2O) 31,000+ miles.
the car was S/C'd right after I bought it new back in '05, I only put 2000 miles on it waiting for the S/C kit to come in... the very first setup netted 620rwhp 518rwtq back then... It's ALL about the tune...
P.S. this car is set up for standing mile, it gets raced every chance I get...
