Default ~Truck Manifold GT45 5.3 TransAm

I had this whole 5.3 setup in my Nova the past couple years. Building a new setup for that so I decided to put this all in my TransAm.
~Stock untouched 5.3 shortblock
~317 heads
~224/224 .580/.580 112 cam
~60# mototrons
~MP GT45 Turbo set to run 15psi
~Ebay intercooler
~Tial 44mm WG & 50mm BOV
~Vic Jr intake (using their low profile elbow instead of the fabbed one I had)
~Griffin radiator robbed from the Nova
~ Stock electric fans

I have a million pics of everything. Heres a few.

Notched k-member

Theres actually 1/2" of clearance between the power steering pulley....picture makes it look like its touching.

the 4000 stall makes up for some of it....and a 50 shot of spray. I also had 29.5" tires on it w/ 3.50 gears, The TA has 28" tires and 3.89 gears. Might help some.. It was kind of doggy off the line at the track.

Thanks,
Intake elbow showed up tonight. Edelbrock low profile one, got a good deal new/used on it so I didnt feel like making one. Also made the intercooler to throttle body pipe and got that on. Now im just waiting on v-band flanges, tial flanges, and 3.5" exhaust elbows.

Two of the vehicles in your signature closely resemble what is in my garage ('99 FRC and a '69 Nova that will be eventually getting a turbo 6.0). I have a couple of questions for you regarding a turbo 6.0 in a Nova, but I'll start a new thread so as not to jack your build page.

Nice work on the Transam, and I look forward to seeing your '72 with the bigger engine.

The k-member needed to be notched to get the bolt in the flange. Studs wouldnt have worked. And stupid GM used SAE threads on the manifolds when the rest of the engine is metric. Threads are 3/8-16NC if you want to run a tap through to clean them out, I needed to.

Here are some pics of the notch to get the bolt in the flange on the passenger side.

I traced it in yellow

1) the lag kinda sucks (not bad though)
2) hate only one pipe out the back
3) Driving on wet roads scares me (dont wanna suck up all the water)
4)Oiling system sucks

I dont hate the sts kit i just think a frontmount would work alot better for my wants/needs.

So you ran a 3" or 3 1/2" downpipe over the k memeber?

Thanks for the pics!

Few questions for ya. I am starting my front mount build and would like to keep the stock fans also. Did you put your turbo up higher out of necessity or asthetics?
I plan to run a t-76 and was wondering if you though it might fit down lower in the middle?
Did you have to notch the frame because you are using 3.5", because I believe 3" should work...shouldn't it?
Last one, Where are you supporting the Turbo from?

Thanks for the help, James.

Yes it is mounted up high because it wouldnt fit down any farther. I have a VFN WS6 hood so hood clearance is not an issue. I like the fact is is mounted high also because of oil drain back, and nothing to do with asthetics, but it dont look too bad sticking out there.

I notched the frame before I put the kmember back in just in case. The outlet on the turbo is 3.5", I dont want to reduce it.

Turbo is supported right now from the piping, it is pretty heavy duty stuff, but I plan on adding some brackets from the engine somewhere, havnt got there yet. It all needs to come off to put the wastegate on, whenever my 3.5" elbows get here.
