Default Turbo AWD full size van lives

Well thanks to hp tuners, for doing the segment swap on the trans (4l80e) the h1500 van lives again. On the preliminary test drives, it seems exacty like I was hoping for. Its a 5.3 FULL SIZE 8 passenger van.

The run down is like this.

1. I built the turbo system in my shop using my mandrel bender etc.
2. coated and wrapped
3. front (top) mount.
4. 46 mm gate
5. QUICK SPOOL valve on a 1.00 coated housing
6. cummins 5.9 diesel intercooler
7. rossler 4l80e with precision 10.5
8. zo6 cam
9. arp head studs
10. mls head gaskets
11. 317 heads
12. 72mm bb turbonetics turbo
13. 3.5 inch down pipe to 3 inch exhuast and through a STOCK muffler

With the first test drive, it goes into boost instantly. Like it sees 5 lbs at 30% throttle and under the convertor. (id guess in the low 2000rpm area).
It did open the gate at 10 psi, at about 60% throttle. Spring only is 10-12 psi.
It was hot, around 100 degrees and the intercooler was dropping the iat, and it had ZERO knock with no meth and a conservative 2 bar tune. Im guessing it will run at 15 psi on 91 with water /meth in the heat easily. Time will tell.

The combination of teh quick spool valve , front mounted , coated and wrapped really came together. This was in stealth mode, through the stock oem muffler. It has a cut out off the dp also, and I suspect it will be really fun putting lenghts on everything from a stop. Remember it AWD.

Zombie or benneliwang can post a few pics probably later today.

I luv it; AWD rules! That's going to be a very entertaining sleeper; you'll surprise a lot of people. What did you use for a transfer case?

Also waiting for pics/video. I'd love to do something like this with an Astro, but the wife won't cruise a van.....

pics should be up soon. Just got back from tuning for a couple hours. Its got a problem. Its out of fuel during wot above 4500 rpm. Its got 60's and a 340 pump. I dont think it should be having this issue yet. It seems ok at about 80% throttle with the waist gate open at 10 psi , but if I go wot it goes lean instantly......

Its running pretty well. It has along ways to go, but its there. This is in 100 degree heat, with no water/meth (YET) ....so Im thinking it will end up around 15 psi when everything is working.

Shift points are still early, and its probably only been run over 5000 a couple times. If I go to far into the throttle it goes lean at 45-4800, but if I hold it at about 80 % its fine, even rich. When it runs out to over 6000 with 15 psi it should be going real good.

It's actually pretty easy:
Engine = pop the engine cover in the cabin and sit on the carpet to do work.
Turbo = open the hood and viola!

But, driving around without engine cover = BBQ 1320's legs lol drumsticks lol turbo whitemeat

^ My friend has a 77 box van with a 383 in it. Even with taking the inside cover off it is a pain in the ass to work on. I also know about the cooking your legs without the cover on. His van doesn't have AC either so it gets really hot in there.

This 2004 is technically a mid engine. The entire engine is behind the front spindle. Pretty much the whole engine is exposed from inside with the dog house off. You can easily reach all but the front plug.

Put about 50 miles on it today. Its running pretty good, its about 110 out today. It making 10 psi on the spring with a peak of 15 degrees timing, (14 at the torque peak) . No knock, and no water meth yet. I tried to get a 600 benz to go (licence plate "turbo12") but he wouldnt go.

The small issue currently is heat. It is heating up, (no more then stock) but to keep the temp down to 210 I have to cycle the ac on and off. It currently has 100% distilled water and still has teh stock oem thrmostat which is probably a 210?

So Im gonna order up a 160 today, and get a small amount of antifreeze in and water wetter when I swap teh stat.
