Default A/A intercooler to support 1000rwhp? Will eBay 4" unit support this....

I'm building a 364ci iron block with forged rods/pistons, Virginia Speed turbo 23x/23x cam, TFS as cast 220cc with some minor work, LS6 intake/ported TB, GT88 turbo (1.06 A/R turbine), 4" downpipe.

Need to look into intercoolers now. Air/Air is what I'm focusing on.

Will an eBay 4" generic intercooler that plenty of people on here run support 1000rwhp?

I'm putting this into another 2800lb FD Mazda RX-7 I have collecting dust in my garage. Textralia triple disc clutch, T56, Cobra 8.8" IRS diff with 3.08 gears. Street car, drag car, 1 mile shootout car is the intended use.

Not enough cfms to out weigh the intake temps. Meaning it will work but you will have to push some serious boost through it.

I dont care how big the core is, you wont be able to shed enough heat for the mile unless it came off a mack truck...

242 better be the goal.... or its not worth it...

I would say no as I have one of these. 1/4 mile..yes with c16 since it can handle higher IATs. Is methanol injection an option? That works very well for me

Louis- If the car is done I'm coming down in the spring with this creation and Mike is taking his LSx FD again but with some nitrous this time around on it. We will certainly attempt to go as fast as either car can run. Good meeting you finally in person. If/when you come out to California to race (Infineon/Laguna Seca) contact me.

I would rather buy the 4" eBay unit.... or these are always a good choice! Methanol injection is on my list.
http://www.chiseledperformance.net/intercoolers.htm

Any other suggestions on efficient A/A intercoolers?
I WILL make just about anything fit. 5" core is fine as well. Weight is a consideration so no cast end tanks.

Maybe buy the eBay 4" A/A unit for the street and if that doesn't work well enuf..... for all out competition stuff run the Chiseled 1500hp A/W intercooler behind the radiator with short piping runs between the turbo and TB inlet. This is the one: http://www.chiseledperformance.net/images/IC1500SM.jpg

Candlebandit- you are running the eBay 4" unit with methanol injection and are running mid 9's right at around 4,000lbs?

My goals are 8's at around 2800lbs so maybe that is all I will need.

9.39 @ 145 on 14.5 psi 3960# raceweight. IATs generally start around 80 deg and end there at the end of the 1/4 using 2 nozzles and the AIS meth kit (vendor here) My turbo intake is right behind the radiator so a turbo intake pipe in a cooler spot would help I am sure. Mine is 33x12x4...the ebays are 31x12x4 (otherwise identical)....i got mine from vsracing. A few guys have flipped one of the end tanks on the ebay i/c and gotten 10-15 degree lower IATs since it makes the air flow over more of the core.....just an idea. If you are going to have the front end sealed up for the mile, the i/c is just a big heat sink so get the biggest you can fit...meth and c-16 since the reid vapor pressure is so low and deals with high IATs so well.....my 2 cents

As stated, 15psi. Ambient air was ~85.

I ran a 6" thick, 12" tall 24" long Bell horizontal flow core at 1000rwhp. Basically, it would run ambient plus 50F at the end of a 1/4 mile run......

I was looking into that 4" A2A IC for another build down the road and found out they are only rated to 650hp. If you're doing the mile, I would recommend a compact A2W setup directly between the turbo and TB. The last thing you need is a meltdown at the top of the mile due to super high IATs and resulting detonation.

Why not just buy a proper core from the likes of Bell ?

The cheapy egay ones are ok for mild upgrades. But for the power you seek....spent the little extra

ebay core is not enough to cool what you plan to throw at it. I have always used one and I read 150*+ by the end of the pass.......upstream of the meth nozzles

I am switching to an A2W for next season. Its hot in the central valley, CA.
