Anyone Running Open Down-pipes? Got Video/Sound Clips?
I am planning on just running straight open down-pipes on my LS1 Incon turbo build in my T/A. It picked up an additional 60 rwhp at 10psi. on the old car it was on just by pulling the exhaust and running open down-pipes. Since I have never actually heard an open down-pipe turbo V8 car, I want to here some clips of what it sound like on an LSX car. I can only really find 4 and 6 cylinder turbo imports though so that's not a very good example of what I'm in for. This is going to be a street car so I'm trying to see if it will be too much to stand driving around town. I had Kooks longtubes with a custom 4" cutout on my old setup and it sounded great. It was pretty loud but I never found it to be too overwhelming and annoying. I have heard that even with no exhaust at all, the turbo's will still make it quieter than with the cutout and longtubes.
Anyone with vids or sound clips of a turbo LSX car with open down-pipes, let's see 'em!
That LT1 is bad ass and sounds amazing. It sounds like it's quieter at idle than a cammed car with longtubes and a cutout, but gets loud only when the boost builds up, which would suit me just fine. Anyone got any in-car cruising vids.
Mine is not that loud at all right now, the exhaust ends right under the driver side k-member, but it does seem to cause quite a bit noise inside the car with things vibrating and stuff.
I have an apt for friday to get the DP extended to the factory tips (CME) no mufflers or cats just to get the noise out the back, ill get some sound clips if I can.

Guess I'm gettin old, but the open downpipe on my red car when I got it finished (347", single 76GTS, 3" dp at the passengers side just past the firewall) was freakin loud. Granted not as loud as open headers, but just freakin droney - would give me a headache after a while of driving it. I'd rather just spend the money on a e-cutout plate and keep it quiet otherwise just driving it.

heres the only vid i have of mine, downpipe exits right by the bellhousing on the pass side.
coming from a h/c setup it is WAY more quite at idle, i kinda dont like it. sounds good at part throttle and cruising though and sounds like fuggen armageddon at wide open when the wastegate opens
ya my dp is about 2 1/2 feet long exiting the front bumper right in front of the tire. at idle its no louder than any cammed car with a cut out, but at wot the turbo screams pretty loud! i say go for it! and sorry bout the breaking up during the burn out, my 3step was set too low! lol!

Toward the end of this vid is some footage of my setup with a Caterpillar turbo, and 5" downpipe dumped in the engine bay. (Temporarily, as it was still under construction) It was pretty loud/droney, obviously.
Here's some short clips of mine. Open down pipe with MP T-70. This is a 3" down pipe and ends right by bell housing. Its actually the same if not quieter than my true dual I had when I was NA.
