Default ST80 vs 76GTS some tad bit of info....more will be coming

This was posted by Jose on another forum....thought some of you might want to know..... I know some of you have ST series units bolted up. We are waiting to hear from you guys as well. 34 units are out there....only one has been destroyed already (turbo vs rock.....Rock 1, Turbo 0...lol)

Quote:
Info on the setup: ST80 w/1.10 A/R running a built 346ci LSX engine, TH400. Customer had a 76GTS before and swapped to this unit. Nothing on the setup has been changed except the turbo's and tuning.

Exhaust : 3.5" DP with cutout at 4 feet from turbo outlet

Performance:
76GTS at 20 psi did 771rwhp with 42psi backpressure.

ST80 at 20 psi is 882rwhp with 37psi backpressure.

I know the numbers aren't special but they do show some difference between the 2 for customers wanting to know. The SX unit is next, and should produce another 30hp just due to the lower back pressure. Also both turbos were done on power as back pressure was rising steeply beyond that. The ST was able to squeek out another 10rwhp, but at the sacrifice of backpressure its not worth it.

The reason for both having low #'s is the tranny and convertor are killing the power, but it should at least give an indication of the power difference between the 2 units

Both units perform well....and the ST76 is next for testing as well. It should be about 40rwhp more then the 76's out there.

Spool up was within 150-200 rpms on every hit...depending on the tuning. So in most cases you won't know it....

wow, good info to know and thats quite a difference between the two...more power w/ less back pressure is always nice.

wow that is good news...over 100RWHP gain at same boost pressure....I'm curious as to what the ST vs. SX numbers will be. T4 flange correct?

Good info.

Yes they were both T4 flange units. Yeah ~100hp gain at max the turbos will do is not bad at all. I want to see the ST80 vs the SX80 head to head.

Darren here is a quote from another post.

Quote:
The ST80 with the larger A/R housing is 10" tall

With the .80 cover its 9.25" tall.

The cover diameter is 10".

A T76MPS is 9" tall and the cover is 9.13 " diameter.

ST for our units stands for (Street series)

GTS is the name for Precision, which means GT= Garrett, S= is the trim wheel

MPS is for T-netics, and its the same basic thing as PTE's style naming.

Yes this was done about 2 weeks ago. The ST76 made only 70rwhp less then the ST80, but this was on a different engine combination (larger cubes, which means backpressure skewed the numbers). The ST76 vs 76GTS has not been done, but should make on that same setup as posted above about 40rwhp more.

Sorry I went back and read your question and no the ST80 did NOT have the race cover on at the time. Their were none available at the time when these units were built.
