Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
I didnt even think about it until I was at work but there is a drag racing boat team where I live, they own a shop here, and was able to score some there.

If you can handle small quantities, and don't mind pushing the edge a bit, model car/plane/heli fuel is a methanol/nitromethane mix with a lubricant additive. Just make sure you tune for it.

You should see what you can do with 50% nitromethane, 45% methanol, and 5% synthetic model oil and those tiny "big block" engines.
Summit racing. It's the snow performace brand. Boost juice, comes in a gallon jug.
While this is convenient, we feel there are much more affordable solutions to these expensive pre-mixed water methanol solutions. Additionally, by the time you add shipping your looking at paying $50.00- 60.00 for basically two gallons of methanol and two gallons of water. Lets face it your really paying $60.00 for two gallons of methanol. Not only are there are many other more affordable solutions. It doesn't make sense to ship water around. Additionally, you can buy two gallons of methanol for about $12.00.
Best way to get it is to pick it up yourself locally than pay the shipping as it being a hazard class it will cost you more than just standard shipping would.
I started a link similar to this about a year ago and found a site with locations in every state where to get it. I'll try to dig up the site and post it up.
Basically, you can get methanol many places though. Some hardware stores have it. I have looked at numerous Lowes and Home Depot stores and not been able to find any. I'm not saying the don't sell it, but I know the handfull of stores around me in central Jersey don't have any.
Lots of race tracks/drag strips have it for sale. You might also want to check farmer suppliers, as they use TONS of methanol. I remember calling a guy once asking for 10 gallons, and he chuckled and said "son, we only sell it by the 55 gallon drum, and the minimum you can buy is 3 drums". Granted the price he offered me per gallon was a little over a dollar, but I just didn't need that much.
Since I have used my meth last year, I have romped the snot out of my car for a solid 6 months, and I only went through about 7 gallons total. It depends on your kit, as some guys seem to go through it faster than others, but on 1 gallon, I can usually get a strong 3 weeks of TONS of WOT. Some guys say they go through a gallon while making a half dozen 1/4 runs at the track, but my car doesn't go through nearly that much. The point I am making with all of this, is you might not be using as much as you think at first, so stay with the smaller quantities like start with 10 gallons.

Not that it makes much difference to anybody in this thread, but if you are near central Arkansas there are a few different VP dealers, all of which have or can get Methanol. Pro Tire in Searcy (my supplier), Auto sports center in NLR, Steves speed shop, etc

HEET and washer fluid, cheap alternative. You can get different mixtures of washer fluid based on what part of the country you live in (colder the better/more concentrated).

I have heard of people using washer fluid, and I guess it should be okay since its mostly half and half methanol and water. I just couldn't ever bring myself to use it.
As for HEET. It is pretty much pure methanol, and you can use it, however in the small containers it comes in, and considering that they are like $4.95 I don't know how you can call it a "cheep" alternative.

I just go to my local Cycle Gear and the Special Order a VP 5 gallon jug. It takes about a week to get but it's only around $25 bucks. I use the the 5 gallon pail for used oil once I empty it.
I found a local supplier in my town called Ramos Oil. They carry 5gal jugs for $6 a gallon. I live in a small town of 16,000 people so its nice to know its right around the corner.
