Default Bosch 044 fuel pump

Do the Bosch 044 fuel pumps have a internal check valve? I just installed one in the fuel tank of my truck. Runs just fine, but will not hold prime. Extended crank time for just a few seconds. Has anyone installed a external check valve? Thanks

No. The check valve came with the pump I bought though. It is external.
