Yep, during a burnout at the track last week only one of my tires spun while the other was completely still. A local gear shop told me that it sounded like my "locker" was going out. I dont kno alot about rearends and I dont wanna spend alot of money but if this is the case what are some of my options?
being that its a 98 it should the Auburn posi unit in it. its a clutch type that i heard can be rebuilt. now 99 and up got the Torsen and it has worm gears so when it breaks it just breaks. i say look for a replacement Auburn posi or see if you can find someone local who can put new clutch packs in it.

Whats your future plans for the car? If you have plans for much power don't wast $$ into a 10 bolt, less maybe its an automatic, but even then DO YOUR RESEARCH. But yeah, your Auburn posi unit is worn and needs replaced or rebuilt!

Try changing the oil and friction additive. Mine does this at the end of every season and when I bring it out in the spring I change the oil and it is fine for a while.

welcome to the 10 bolt woes club! my car is an 02 and it does the same shit (stock 10 bolt). the only way i could keep the posi locked was to start in 1st, and bump it to 2nd while still in the water box, spin it to like 5 K and roll out. my buddy's 00 M6 car had the same issue. 2nd gear burnout kept it locked as well. Then he launched it at 3500 with a dump and MT's. Toasted the rear and broke the driveshaft all at once. Needless to say, we're going to buy two 9" rears and be done with this shit.
