how can tell the difference between 2 and 3 series?

Default how can tell the difference between 2 and 3 series?

How can you tell the difference? I bought a used carrier and was told its a 2 series (torsen)

Check the rpo code in the dash. If the gearing numbers are under 3.08 its a 2 series. and above 3.08 are 3 series.

If you just have the rear and no car...^^^^^ post a pic

since 'thick' gears are intended for 2-series carriers,the 2-series gearset 'value' would apply. if I have pics of 'thick',I'll post them up.
