Default M9 with spool or locker?

Im at a cross roads.. i just put a cam in my car this year but didint really get to dirve it. i ended up doing a bunch of other things i wanted to do to the car anyway. Since this years pretty well shot and i really dont want to dump money into my 10 bolt to put 410s in the car, ive already just moved on to my next weak point of the car. I know that i will be putting an M9 in the car. That leads me to my question. The car only sees the road when its a gorgeouse day and sees the track maybe about 3 times a summer. Now i wanted to go with a locker originally but ive heard that they are pretty aggressive around turns anyway. So if a locker is going to pop and grab around the average suburban street corner.. then my thinking would be to buy a spool and save the money towards suspension goodies. My buddy had a spool in his car, and i didint mind it when i drove it around. My only complaint is that his car ate tires within 300 miles. I plan to run mickey thompson drag radials and he was on BFG drag radials. The car will be seein FI in the next few years also as a side note. Thanks for your help[

With your mods I would go with a Tru Trac.

I've had several customer's with lockers with manual transmissions experience problems shifting under part throttle. If it is an automatic I'd go with a locker. Bob

I went spool in my Midwest 9". Im on Nittos and its not tearing them up as much as I thought it would. My car is same situation as yours, driven on nice days and a few track visits per year. Spool does bind/chirp tires but, only when turning tight. Once you learn to swing it wide you will be fine. I went spool for the strength and $$ savings, why do it twice.

yea im leaning toward spool i think. The car is a 6Speed so thanks for your input bob. As far as a trutrac goes i dont want to worry about swapping diffs later on when i go FI. I know they are strong my buddy went 9.5 with a trutrac in a 12 bolt with a 1.34 60ft. So i know there strong, but like i said i only want to worry about a gear swap when the time comes for FI and maybe a bearing refresh. Im also not the type of person that is very picky about drivability. Which prolly shows considering i put a vindicator cam in my car along with full exhaust and an lm1 catback.(which i swapped out for a lm2 to try and quiet it a bit)lol and i removed my front sway bar. im still waiting to start the car up again with the new muffler. But like i said the car is being built to be a quick street car in a straight line that i can cruise around. Thanks for everyones opinions and info it realy helps considering this is a decent sized purchase lol. So keep the info coming.

I have a spool in my M9, it is a very lightweight and good way to go. Bob

To add to this threads worth, If using a spool, since it's lighter, is that less driveline losses (rotating mass and all that stuff)?

You are correct, you will have rotating mass. Bob

May as well go with a 35 spline Wave-Trac and be done with it forever.
