Default Moser 12 bolt with stock auto steel driveshaft: U joint question, strength question.

Today I tried to put a stock driveshaft in my new Moser 12 bolt. The U joint will ALMOST fit into the yolk (yoke?). Is there another U joint that's about a mm smaller?

Second question: I've heard that the stock steel driveshafts that came out of certain auto cars are stronger than the Aluminum driveshafts that come in our cars. Is this true? I hope so, because I happen to have one.

Thanks in advance,
Hilton

I searched and searched, and the answer I came up with, was the Precision 372.

It appears that THIS u joint is too small. I wish I'd realized that before installing it. The driveshaft slides back and forth a lot. My grease gun is empty, so I haven't filled it through the fitting. I guess it's possible that the addition of the grease will prevent it from sliding back and forth quite so much.

Have a look, tell me what you think. These pictures are with the driveshaft pushed all the way to the other side. The gap would be halved were the driveshaft centered.

If the Moser 12 bolt has a 1350 yoke, and you are using the stock driveshaft, you will need a 447 U Joint.

The U Joint you have in the above pictures is the wrong one.

All the stock driveshafts are fairly weak. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a stronger aftermarket driveshaft that has a 1350/1350 U Joint. Bob

Considering that both the aluminum and steel driveshafts had u joints that were originally mated to factory 10 bolts, you would need to get a properly matched u joint no matter which DS you used, since the Moser yoke is a different size.
