Default Bad day at the track

I just got my car done 2 weeks ago, took it to Byron Dragway, first run out, did my burnout, launched at 3k an snapped the driveshaft! not at the u-joints but right down the middle! : The car isnt much at all...full exhaust,intake,ls7 clutch, suspension, MT's, etc. The track was sticky for sure. so now im looking at getting a steel driveshaft, any thoughts?

heres the equation: T56+M/t boots+Byron= driveshaft failure. join the crowd!!! lol got you handled for the fix other than your related damage. Strange or PST driveshaft, and a bolt-in driveshaft loop to save your ass! call or pm me for the hook up. I may be at Byron this weekend if the weather holds out, or I can ship you the parts.

What are the pros/ cons to each of the drive shafts you mentioned? I'll be in the market for one soon. Thanks

The Stock LS1 DS sucks.

It's not made for Drag Racing.

Stock weight is too heavy to really try putting foot to ass at the track.

The DS was the fuseable link in your drive line, at least you didn't blow the 10 bolt.

I love my Denny's 3" Steel Nitrous ready DS.

That is all.

i just figured it would last longer then what it did. the car is a 98' with only 40k, would there be any other reason for it to break?

WS Sick: "anyone got a vid. of me snapping the driveshaft? id love to see it"

I figured I'd post it up for you as soon as I got a chance. Did you not want it posted? I'll take it down if you like.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force

This is a situation where it has nothing to do with power, it has to deal with the Force being applied to the driveline, Like originally said, your DS is the fuseable link which let go before more damage could occur.

With a dead stop, a heavier race weight and the force being applied the DS tensile strength was insufficent to keep from breaking/snapping.

In order for me to get a new driveshaft do i need to find the dimensions from the seal on the trans to the pinion yoke face at ride height? Can someone confirm this? and does anyone know what that dimension is?

This is the PST driveshaft I recommend and use myself. There is an option for either the 10-12 bolt length or the 9 inch. Bob

Not to hijack but do they make a carbon fiber drive shaft for ls1 cars?? Carbon Fiber is way stronger then aluminum and way lighter then steel...

PST driveshafts are available in seamless steel, chromemoly, and aluminum. prices are applicable with material grade.

carbon shafts are available for the f-bodys. they are custom made to order at your specific length. carbon is a great material, but due to the weight of these cars we really don't recommend the carbon shafts, especially in the higher powered cars.
