Default 2.73 gears

I have a 2002 trans am. It has 2.73 gears in it. Should I change them or not? If I did change them I would only want to go to a 3.23
Would there be any benefit from changing them? If so, what kind of performance gains have you guys seen from doing so? Thanks

i wouldn't go to 3.23 (45 dead spot) because you will end up changing it to 3.73 anyway. go big the first time 3.73 (no dead spots) and you will see a huge difference.

i got 3.23 in my z28 and i m dieing to go to 3.73

Do you drag race it? Do you drive it a lot? Is gas mileage and/or starting line breakage a concern?
Read my thread about my experience with ditching my 2.73 gears in this forum, it might help you make a decision.

I went from 2.73 to 3.73, only dropped my track times about .15, but has made the car much more enjoyable to drive on the street. Lost about 2 mpg from the swap, driving mostly highway.

less chance to break a set of 2.73 vs 3.42 and 3.73

i have 2.73's reight now while the car is my dd work car. plans are to replace entire drive train at 200K miles. at that point, if the rear hold together i'll swap for some 3.90's.

Miss my 2.73 gears. Turning 2500rpm at only 58mph instead of 72mph sucks!

I don't know how big of difference it is between the vette and Z28 but this chart is right on with my car with RPMs. I have 3:42 out of a Z06 in my Vette and I like it a lot I have been told the 2:73 that came in my car were very sluggish mine was changed before I got it.

if you turned 2500 at 72 you didnt have 2.73's.

i turn just over 2K at 80, according to the chart above id have to do about 100mph to turn 2500 rpm.
