ok so i have a 98 z28.i was told the stock was relaced with a 3.08 but after hearing some bad noises i took my rear apart and when i looked it at i found out i was actually a 2.73, the stock set-up im guessing. im replacing anyways because bearings are shot and id rather do it all at once.so im upgrading to 3.73's.i think im going to go with the summit gears but i got a quick question i want to make sure of before.in the summitt book theres two sets of 3.73's for the 7.5 10 bolt( one for a 3.23 and higher carrier and one for a 3.08 and lower carrier).it might sound dumb but i do need to order the 3.08 and lower carrier correct?

I just spent yesterday getting a new set of Motive 3.73 gears installed, and they're a real disappointment.

The pinion measurement they scribed was "2.2P7". Go try and figure out what number "P" is. The gears were made in S. Korea for what that's worth.

The shop, very reputable and has been in Corvette and GHMTP magazines, blew over an hour trying to figure out what the "P" meant before they just started from scratch with their own measurements.

The new gears are nice and quiet under acceleration thus far, but very whiny during deceleration. Hopefully this goes away after break-in and lube change.

The best, quietest, toughest gears I ever head were "Strange" 3.42s made by US Gear. Made in Illinois, quiet from Day 1 onward, only reason I ditched them was the upgrade to 3.73. The shop that did that change insisted on Richmonds, and my eardrums regretted that for the past 3 years. If these Motives don't quiet down, Strange gears are going in.

Just bought a OEM set of 3:73's from Jaws Gear & Axle. Jeff was very good to deal with, he told me OEM was the only real way to go. He also shared that the new OEM gears are better then my 02 3:23 stock gears due to a better procedure now, then they had back then.
