I have not run into a torque arm that will not work with a Moser 9 inch. Sometimes a little grinding has to be done on the bracket, but they always work out. Bob

I really prefer the nine inch on just about all applications, as it is beefy enough to be there for you in the future, should you decide you want to run in the nines in the 1/4 mile. Bob

So they don't use an unequal length set of axles?

Yes, the axles are different lengths for the 9 inch. Bob

Approx 20 to 30 lbs, I don't remember exactly. I feel the extra weight is worth it though, the 9 inch is stronger and I prefer the way the torque arm bolts to the rear. Bob

I just replied with the below info to a question asked in the sales area of this forum about what is required to install a new Moser rear-end.

A new U Joint if you have the stock driveshaft with it's 1310 yoke. Napa pn# 240-0447 goes for $32.00. 3 quarts of non synthetic gear lube, 2 ft of 1/4 vacuum hose for the vent line, two 3.00" exhaust clamps. You use the U part of the exhaust clamps to secure the rear sway bar, and reuse the bottom part of the sway bar bracket after elongating the holes towards the outer ends. The reason for doing this is the Moser housing is larger in diameter than the stock housing. The 3.00" U Bolts fit over the housing.
You also need a bearing press to press off the old axle bearings to remove the brake backing plates that are reused. Most Napa and small shops have a press, it only takes several minutes to do this. You reinstall the backing plates on the new axles, and press on the new Moser supplied axle bearings. Instructions are included from Moser for doing this. The center cover on the new Moser 12 bolt does not ever come off for doing this procedure, by the way. The axles are retained at the ends, as there are no C Clips. Bob

Are the moser rears setup with proper backlash out of the box or is a recommended procedure to take the cover off and double check to prevent noise issues down the road from an improper wear pattern...

I've heard that Strange runs the rears they sell and break them in ahead of time so when you get them they have a good wear pattern already established and the rear is verified to make as little noise as is possible with a tall rear gear. Does Moser do the same?

I'd like to get a Moser 12 but just want to know how it stacks up.

Moser does indeed set their rears up ahead of time, we don't pull the covers to double check the wear pattern prior to installing their rears, and you shouldn't need to either. If the Moser 12 bolt rear is ordered with the standard chrome cover, we do suggest pulling the cover and grinding off the chrome where the gasket resides, to eliminate possible leaks.
I've never heard that Strange breaks their rears in ahead of time, maybe I'm wrong but I find that hard to believe. I would think that would pose possible shipping problems with gear lube in the rear-end, and it would be nearly impossible to drain all of it out of the rear. Bob

For those who are wondering, the aluminum center section that is an option with the Moser 9 inch, cannot be ordered with the Truetrac posi, but is an option with the spool. Bob
