To this day my LS1 puts a huge smile on my face. All it has is a cam, headers, and the usual bolt ons and I have 423rwhp. Tell me any other non LS engine that can make that power for the price and amount of mods?

Hardly, when LS1 cars keep getting faster, example http://gonicd.com/videos/9_47_inside.wmv

Personally I think of all of the LS motors when you say LS1. The parts interchangability between the LS family is typical of the traditional sbc legacy. When I decide what my future builds will be it all comes down to Weight, packaging, after market support, cylinder head flow and how much power the bottom end can take. Lay over a power curve of 2JZ or any dimunative in size Import rwd vehicle and an LS1 powered vehicle and it becomes an obvious choice. Look at the size of a 4 valve Ford engine vs an LS1, no brainer there, the Ford engine is huge on the outside and small on the inside. There isn't antything better then an LS motor yet. If Ford would have gone with an Al version of the 351 they probably would have been on par with GMs LS1, but they picked their poison and now they have to live with it.

Just the LC2.

To bad they are almost 25 years old and parts are drying up. I still miss the instant brutal torque, I don't miss the G-body at all.

Default lost its cred

Not by a long shot. Look at all of the people who are taking the LS1 and putting it in other cars. Street rods, conversions and the like are all swapping to this motor due to the abundance of parts and quality of design. No way has this motor lost its street cred. The people you mention are dumb.
