Default LS1 heads on SBF?!?!

Don't know if this is a re-post, but my cousin sent me the link to this. Seems a pretty crafty Ford guy has noticed the similarities between LS1 and SBF heads. He's building a SBF and customizing LS1 heads for it. It's an interesting thread.

There's a few guys saying how Chevy guys are going to get all mad about realizing the LS1 is a culmination of Ford ideas rolled into one. I have no idea whether that's true or not, but I don't care either. The LS1 makes monster power for what it is. Now Ford guys want a little piece of that so they can feel the power too. It's cool with me.

I especially support the hot rodder ingenuity this guy has. There's no manual, or catalogue for this guy to order from to do this. It's all about customizing something to make power. That's awesome right there.

Thats funny, if this were true there would be a set heads comparable to the LS1's designed to bolt right on to a SBF. Apparently that idea didn't roll in very well.
Hard to believe there aren't even any aftermarket heads comparable if this guy is going through the trouble.

With the bore spacing off by .020(4.4 ls1, 4.38 sbf) there is only a .060 variation between cylinder 1 and cylinder 7. I'm sure that's great for chamber shrouding and/or air flow. Or are fords numbered 1234 not 1357 per bank? I don't know, it's a ford. You can try to make it chevy all you want. But it's still a ford. Circle the problem.

Im hitting up some of the forums that have my thread on 460ford.com to see opinions about my build or any questions.

Yes I have owned some nice heads that are not push over's(canfield 20deg 58cc sbf) but that swap is sold.Im going to make a custom intake first for a 351w,then a 302w on mild ls1 heads later on.LMK,peace.

Doesn't change the fact that it is still a ford design though.

Look, I was supporting this guy for thinking outside the "box," or, "oval" in this case. I think what he's doing is awesome. It's stuff like this that makes our hobby great. People doing things different is what made hot rodding. I support it.

I agree. Lets face it. It's the damned cylinder heads that make the LS series engines the power monsters that they are. Take a look at some of the best flowing street heads on the market that are made for the small block ford. Compared to the LS1 heads, they don't look all that great. Then consider some of the better aftermarket LS heads available and the after market ford heads don't stand a chance.
With their superior flow, it's only a matter of time before the after market makes the slight changes need to bolt the LS heads to the ford blocks.
If nothing else, it would at least be another nail in the coffin of those lame Mod motors.

He should save his money and put a LS motor in it (what ever it is) like the other Ford guys are doing. There big in the Mustangs now just like they have been in street rods for years. If you can't beat us join us.

If your using the LS1 heads, why not just use the rest of the motor too.
