Default is my torque converter failing?

well my car started making a noise and it sounded like an engine knock. the car is keeping good oil pressure and when i put it on jack stands there is tranny fluid leaking out.the sound seems like its coming from the tranny when im under the car,any ideas if it could be the stock converter going bad.

How many miles are on your car??
Are the oil levels good??
I am not an expert but I think it is unlikely the converter is bad. Anything's possible though.

Actually maybe the converter. Swelled up because good oil psi and knocking could be that. Did I recently like hold the brake and stall up the converter

136,000 miles on it.it wasnt leaking tranny fluid before the noise.and the noise doesnt speed up wen the rpms go up,of course i kept them real low just in case.

drop your oil pan to make sure its not a connecting rod! may be a lot of work but i had to same knocking noise and it turned out to be a connecting rod that destroyed engine. mine went at 60k miles and urs is in 100k miles.

if it doesnt change with engine rpm, it couldnt be a rod.

That is what my converter did when it failed, the noise wasn't as dramatic. It did start spewing fluid everywhere though, it wouldn't hold a single quart in there. It would also slip out of gears, mainly 3rd and forth, then would clunk back together if I let off the gas.

but there was a sound?i had a my friend whos a mechanic look at it and drive it. hes saying hes pretty sure its the converter.how long before it would take out the flexplate?tranny? and as luck would have it i had ordered a yankss3600 converter before it started acting up.

Mine made an odd hissing noise, and a loud clunk into gears. It will take out the tranny in less than 50 miles. Mine spit almost all of the fluid out in ~10 miles. Even if it still had fluid to circulate, the busted verter would over heat the trans and kill it in short order. Don't drive it like that if you can avoid it!

I also replaced my old one with a new Yank unit. GREAT converters, I think you'll be happy with it.

i looked on youtube for some videos of what a torque converter going bad sounds like, and i found a video of a car that sounds just like mine and the only problem with it was loose flexplate bolts. im hoping that could be the problem with mine
