Default Dying Key Fob, What are my Options?

Just bought a 00 SS and the previous owner only had one set of keys. I'd like to get a second set, which I'm sure would cost a pretty penny (anyone know for sure?), and the one key fob I have only works when I'm right on top of the car, and only half the time then. Can I get a key fob off ebay? Would it cost me a small fortune to have it programmed to the car?

You can get a key fob on ebay for about $35 IIRC and you program it to the car yourself. It comes with instructions.

^^^^^^^^What he said. Pop it apart and get a new battery. I don't remember the size, but it's a small watch type battery.

If you want another fob to have a second one, (+1 on the battery for your current one) all you have to do is match up the numbers etched in the back of your old fob to the new one. Even if its a different style, the new fob will work if those numbers match.

You can program yourself and you should be able to search this site for instructions.

first off replace the battery cr2032 is the part number. as far as programming goes it takes 5 seconds and some skill if doing 2 remotes. it is htrough your fuse panel and your lock system. if you add a remote you have to reprogram both. keys cut from the dealer are less than 30 for both and my dealer just gave me a remote they had lying around.

you can also take the fob apart and clean the contact area where the buttons touch the circuit board using some alcohol and a Q-Tip.

i use soap and water to clean the gunk out of mine... there very hardy, ive washed mine alot.. take it apart, wash every component seperately, make sure the battery is out and make sure its totally dry before putting the battery back in

I used alcohol and a qtip to clean the inside of mine, then replaced the battery and its like new

I bought a lot of 20 off ebay a couple of years ago for real cheap, but I have no idea where they are

All good info guys. I bought a battery for my one, but am definitely wanting a second set of keys and a second fob. Glad to know keys won't set me back too much and a fob is programmable.

I just got a remote fob from ebay, it was around 30 bucks.
Had an extra key made at Ace, it was 29 bucks. If you want two remotes, you just have to program them at the same time. The one I got came with the instructions, it takes about 2 minutes to program and is real easy.
