Default strange whine noise

When I dont have the stereo on I can hear somewhere on the car (either the rear end or engine bay) a low whine. Soon as I accelerate it really becomes evident....kind of reminds me of a supercharger whining up.

Any ideas what it is and if it means something is about to break? I'm getting ready for a 1800 mile trip to head back home in 2 weeks so just wanna get things taken care of before I leave.

Sounds like the alternator, or a pulley.

Remove the main drive belt and see if the sound goes away.

Any way to know for sure if it is without going to the dealership?

I'll give it a whirl, but it sounds like it is coming from the rear
