Default SLP Smooth Bellow Write Up/ Review

Hello fellow LS1 tech members! Well, my wife had a heart attack when I told her the price for my LS6 intake, Long tubes, and dyno tune. Needless to say we will be waiting a little while until I get those mods. Until then, the cheapest item on my list was the SLP Smooth Bellow. I want to let all the newbies know that any seasoned LS1 owner will tell you that the Smooth Bellow is a waste of money and that the stock one will work fine up to 500hp.
They will tell you its better to use that money toward getting your throttle body ported, or other mods. And they will tell you that you can make one with parts from the hardware store, I didn't want to make mine, thats just my personality. So I would say the Smooth bellow sits up there with free mods, do they give you way more HP? No, but every little bit counts, right? Thats where the smooth bellow stacks up, "every little bit counts". Unfortunetly, the Smooth bellow from SLP costs about $60 more than any free mod if you catch my drift So, without further ado, here is my Smooth Bellow write up.

I bought my Bellow from LS1 tech's sponser Maryland Speed which has always been good to me. It was on back order so I got it in about a week instead of the usual 4-5 days but I wasn't in a hurry to get this SOTP mod Installation is straight forward, undo the worm clampswith a phillips screw driver, pop off the accordian style stock piece and pop on the SLP Smooth Bellow. Tighten the worm clamps making sure the Bellow is all the way on the MAF and throttle body before tightening. Start up your engine and go for a ride. Here are the pics of my install, can anyone tell I was a little bored? LOL enjoy...

The Bellow...

Comparison...

The Install which took about 10 min...

All Done!!!

I took it for a drive afterwards, I could definitely feel a SOTP difference, I then took it to the track, stock I ran a 13.1, but after the Bellow I ran a 12.7, not bad for $60. Just kidding you wacky readers, I didn't go to the track but I gunned it up a few onramps, of course there was no difference! LOL, but it was a fun install, it was a quality piece and it looks good, I'll post up a more interesting install of my LS6 intake and long tube install later this summer, take care!

good writeup, but if someone needs a writeup to install that particular piece, they should stick to washing and waxing

Agreed. Now did you remember how hard you have to torque the MAF down with the hammer?

Well I think that most people get them not for the SOTP feeling but more for looks and fitment... I know my stock one was pushing my air lid out and they look worse...

I have the Fernco "Bellow" but its too stiff so it puts alot of pressure on the lid neck. Whenever I have "spare" money, I'll pick up an SLP one.

I am the same way Blue Knight. I don't like trying to "make something work" I just bought a smooth bellow used from some one on a different forum, but even though it didnt do anything it looks better and made my lid fit better.

LOL, when I got my SLP lid I wanted my engine bay to still look stock so I transfered the sticker over to the SLP lid. Unfortunetely the sticker lost some of its stickiness and I've been to lazy to glue it on. I just don't like the look of those white big cheesy SLP letters on the lid, its just personal preference. I also like the "sleeper" look. "No, I don't have a lid, ported throttle body and LS6 intake, I just have a cat-back".

Although a seasoned LS1 guy will notice the big plastic air bellows on either side of the lid are missing.

Very nice, but I think I'm going to just go with 12 dollar silicone connectors off of E-bay.

I need a 4 inch to 3 inch anyways.
