SSRA and that Y brace
I installed an SSRA a year or two ago, but I'm wanting to "fix" it, so to speak
The way it is now, the two pieces hook together around that Y brace under the hood latch. Doing this though, there's a gap around that Y brace where air could come in. With that, it doesn't seem like there would be any pressurized effect, which is why I wanted the SSRA in the first place
How do you get around this? Can you cut a section of this Y brace off without side effects? I drive around without a front bumper support already, so I'm not exactly worried about safety...just worried about the hood support falling off

the SSRA works fine the way it is.
you'll never notice that air that "escapes"
that scoop picks up alot of air at speed....and it gives proven gains....even with that small "leak"
and if i'm not mistaken...that brace holds up the hood latch.
energy and effort better spent on other things

make sure you seal up top by the lid too...weather stripping & silicone work great

i disagree that Y brack is in the center of the intake and actually blocks about a 1/3rd or more of the air flow plus it creates a leak path...cut the Y bracket at the top of the Y...there is plently of support from the 4 top 10 mm bolts holding the hood latch in place...i have done this for my car when i put my custom ram air in...it is definietly a good mod to do...with the Y bracket gone and the intake sealed up i bet you will gain around 5rwhp...

i think a while back the creator of the ssra said that was incorporated into the design so that any water that may get sucked up there if you drive in the rain can get spit out the hole in the back rather than go up into the air filter. if your car is a d/d id leave it alone, but if you never drive in the rain then i guess you can try and seal it up.

Answer from the maker of the SSRA:
Me, I'd just duct tape it. I hat cutting factory stuff. If I was to cut it, I'd pick up a brace from the juinkyard to cut.
