Default Magnaflow C/B Exhaust Rattle, who has it?

I have the most annoying rattle coming from my Magnaflow cat back, it was always quiet while stock , however, now the damn thing rattles so hard it overpowers the lope of the cam, you can put your foot on the drivers side tail pipe and it goes away but I can't seem to make any head way in fixing it under the car. Was just wondering who else has this problem with a Magnaflow cat back? I have 1 3/4 Kooks LT's and a Kooks O/R Y also.

Thanks,

Jeff

It's probably the over-axle portion making a little contact somewhere. Jack it up, get underneath, and see where it's touching. Loosen up some of the clamps, tweak it, and tighten it up.

Yeah I would check the over the axle area and make sure it isn't up against the heat shields.

My friend Dave's 98 Z28 has this rattle as well. I agree with the above posts. I know his Over-Axle Pipe is very close to the Panhard Bar and most likely the cause. I believe if we loosen his ORY and slide it toward the back of the car, away from the headers, just a bit, will give it a little more clearance and hopefully eliminate the rattle. Hopefully we can get this taken care of this winter.

I live in small town called North English. Ever heard of the Tanger Factory Outlet Mall in Williamsburg? I'm about 15 miles Southwest of there.

I am with Bbalr, I have been under the car and adjusted things 3-4 times and still get that high pitched squeak and rattle about the same RPMS he is talking about.....I am going to try several more things if it doesn't work by spring I may just sell the c/b and the O/R Y and go with a true dual set up......does anyone have a audio/video clip of a cammed LS1 with true duals dumped before the axle?

Im having a similiar issue with my c/b. Its rattling against the heat shield over the axle ive tried to bend the heat shield and it only works for a little while. This weekend I'm going to try to adjust the catback when I throw my headers in or put a couple self tappers in the heat shields to secure them outta the way.

Mine used to rattle and it turned out to be the welds on one of the hangers that was broken. Took it to the shop and they welded it again and it was good to go.

YES. All the damned time. Lasted about 500 miles before it started. I'm going to take it to an exhaust shop soon to have it redone from scratch.

None of my welds are broke. Nothing.

I can get it to squeak if I shake it side to side but not if I do it up and down. There are no rub marks at all on the exhaust or the car and Ive even had it up on ramps and climbed under it to see if I can find out what is causing it.

My rattle was due to the ID of the catback pipe being bigger than the OD of the y-pipe... i.e. it was a loose fit even when the clamp was tight...

I used a pipe expander to expand the y-pipe making the fit snug, no more rattle.

Keokuk, huh. Yeah, I know where that is. I used to have GF that had family from there. Although that quite a while ago. Thats about as South and East in Iowa as you can get. LOL.

Good luck with your rattle, man. I'll let you know how the one on Dave's Z works out.

I have a slight rattle but I haven't climbed under to see what its hitting yet. I think it may be hitting the panhard bar. Mine is not as bad as some of you have described it though.
