That was the rule of thumb I used for my 383. I like 224 cam'd 346's so my 383 has a ~ 230 cam
Yeah I read that in a Vizard article. Take the difference between the 2 engines in cubes and use the square root of that number as the amount to add to the smaller engines cam spec's that you know works well..

ok just thought i would throw this in here, 374 ls6 stroker,11.36:1, NX 200 shot, PRC ls6 heads, JE flat tops, Eagle h beams, Eagle crank, FULLY STUDDED, ls6 intake, and patrick g sent me a custom grind that is a 246/253, .622/.621 112+4 LSA. this is a daily driver and if freakin screams, from down low all the way to the top. i know its not a 383 but just thought i would let you know what i am running.
BUMP this thread up! Anybody got any new cams or dyno results or track times? I seen a thread recently where Patrrick G specd a cam for a 347 using solid roller lobes and gained 28rwhp with about the same size cam and was thinking of trying that out??
I've got the old ms4 in my 383 with a Ls6 intake, and it only made 430rwhp/406rwtq thru the A4. It only peeks at 5900rpm with stage 1 (297cfm/227cfm) Ls6 heads, 11.75:1, and the rest of the norm. best e.t. 11.42@119w/ 1.61 60'. at 3590 lb race weight(w/ driver). Would I benefit from a better cam or fast 90or92.
What size headers are you 383 guys running? I was going to run the TSP 1 7/8 headers but I may have clearence problems? Plan on a 150-200 shot and a huge cam
Yes.
Stroker motors need either bigger combustion chambers in the heads or larger valve reliefs in the pistons in order to keep the compression to pump gas levels.
The reason for that is a stroker motor has extra distance to compress the mixture over a stock stroke engine.
My engine doesn't ping with 93..But it will with 92.
It pings at idle with 89. It's on the ragged edge of needing to mix in race gas.

the reason I asked is cause I have the same pistons, same chamber size , gm MLS gaskets and everything I can find and everyone I talked to says mine is only 10.7-8
I run Cometic head gaskets for what that's worth.
I wish I had my cam recommendation form from Pat G..because those were the #'s that he came up with.
The truck heads required some milling after the fact in order to get them BACK to 62cc's.
Whatever bowl work was done in the porting process enlarged the CC's by either 2 or 3.
I cc'd the heads locally & had sent back to TSP to be corrected.
My cam is set up EXACTLY around those dimensions.
Did TSP build your motor?
