Default MS4 & HPE Mega Death Camshaft questions/suggestions

Ok I'm looking to buy an LS1 car soon (a 98-02 SS). At my work we have CNC'd LS6 heads avaliable, so I'm planning to get a set of those. So my question is what is everyone's expierence with stock short blocks and big duration cams. I'm looking at the MS4 cam(magic stick 4) or the HPE megadeath cam. I've heard depending on the duration, you'd need to fly cut the pistons. That would be no problem. Does anyone out there have either of these two cams and CNCd heads with a manual trans? If so what kind of chassis dyno numbers did you make. Ideally I would run mid tube or long tube headers and GMMG or Hooker catback. What other mods would you guys recommend? Air lid? MAF? TB?Thanks for the help.

MS4 you have to fly cut yes..what spec on the hpe cam? sounds scary...

humm, good luck with the 500rwhp goal...hope you have every supporting mods in the world and the typical dynojet. Anyway, the car will pull tih that T-rex whatever the dyno number!

The megadeath specs are in sig. Great cam lots of power up top. The clearence is tight with 243 heads you will have to flycut with milled heads. Its around .40-.50 cold with the stock deck height and stock head gaskets. There is a new big boy cam by tick performance called the polluter the spec are 240's duration and lift over .600 on 112lsa.The specs are not given but it seemes to make about 30rwtq more than my megadeath on pretty much the same setup ls6 intake+boltons and it has a little more clearence than the megadeath.Sounds like a good stock bottom end cam for max power!

The ms4 on 112 lsa will fit a stock bottom without fly cutting.

.PRC stage 1 heads are the best bang for the buck. They are stock deck height and stock valve size and still flow 305@.600 and price out for about a grand. These heads work great for both cams.I will be adding these heads to my megadeath for my next mod I am expecting 30+ over my stock 241s.The stage 2 ls6 heads run bigger valves and clearence becomes a problem.

Thanks for the replies guys. So bascially I'll be running CNC'd 4243 castings, an LS6 manifold, stock TB and headers&catback and stock bottom end. With these mods does anyone know if the stock injectors will work? In reality, are the megadeath and MS4 going to run about the same? Does anyone out there have either one of these cams with stock exhaust manifolds? I live about 10mins from Tick Performance but havn't spoken to them about their poulliter cam yet. I'm going to be building on a budget(because the wife says so) so I'd like to get the best "big" cam for stock bottom end and limited mods. If either of these cams will run like crap with only the CNCd heads and LS6 intake with only headers and catback, then would a smaller cam work better? Thanks

I would go talk to tick performance about that new cam if you only live 10 min away.

Peak flow #'s on heads arent a concern for most of us that run LS6 or FAST intakes since they dont flow over 270cfm. .200-.500 are the area we need to look at.

You might want to look at the cam I'm getting. PM since hes not a sponsor. It made the same HP as the streetsweeper but made 35 more TQ at 3000.

All the big cams are going to suck down low I would consider talking to someone and let them know your goals so they can better lead you in the right direction.

The streetsweeper car had a home ported FAST 78mm, 1 7/8 ARH's and made 420hp 389TQ

The cam he spec'd me made 420hp 386tq but it had a LS6 intake with a ported TB and 1 7/8 headers.

The MS4 is the result of tons of design & dyno testing time. We've dyno tested so many different large camshafts next to the MS4 & it constanly does very well. Here's a dyno sheet from before & after MS4 on a stock setup.

The MS4 doesnt make more power till 4500rpm thats over a stock cam. 1 reason why I dont understand the trend towards BIG cams. For a street car thats around 3600lbs its going to be a dog down low.

It picked up 95hp but only gained 18ftlbs.

I picked up 126rwhp and 70rwtq with full bolt ons, fast 90, NW 90, 1-3/4" long tubes and the Megadeath cam.

I have both dyno graphs I can post up once I get home if I remember. 310rwhp bone stock and 436rwhp/400rwtq with the above mods. Did not need to fly cut the pistons but I will say get a stronger timing chain...

Looking at that engine dyno for the MS4, the Megadeath makes much more torque. 440 at the motor equates to around 374 to the wheels, my car dyno'd 400 at the tires which is about 470 at the motor. Unfortunately I never got any track times before the stock timing chain split in half, but it did run very strong on the street.

I came from a 224/230 cam, ls6 intake, ported TB to what I just mentioned.
