Default LS2/LS3 valley cover gasket and o-rings??

Exactly what the title says. Anybody on here know the part #'s for the cover seal/gasket or the o-rings that block off the DOD towers? This would be the non-DOD cover. Are these even available separately? The guy I'm helping bought this cover on Ebay. Unfortunately, it came without the gasket and seals, and I can't ever find anything online without the part#. LOL Ron

This is what I found for Head Bolts.... 99-03... NOT sure on 04-UP Individual #'s
OK THERE ARE 3 DIFFERENT SIZE BOLTS.

#12558840 -SHORT...YOU NEED 10 Total

#12560745 -MED... YOU NEED 4 Total

#11588291 -LONG... YOU NEED 16 Total

Those are the totals needed to do Both heads.

From experince, I have found it is More expensive to get them individual through the dealer, then it is to get a Head bolt Kit from some one...

#12498545 -Should be a Head bolt Kit for 97-03 ONE HEAD with the above 3 part numbers in it. YOU NEED 2 KITS

#17800568 -Should be a Head bolt Kit for 04-UP ONE HEAD Not Sure On Individual part numbers. YOU NEED 2 KITS

I really appreciate the info, and I made a copy for future reference, but it still didn't solve my problem. Since the LS2/LS3 is a GEN lV engine, I would assume the valley cover gasket is different than an LS1. Also I still need the number for the o-rings that block oil to the DOD towers. Surely there is a GM parts man on this forum who is knowledgeable enough to help.

I would also like to know whats involved in disabling DOD and if the towers have to be blocked.

I saw your answer to my post in the conversions forum, and I think we're going to use your suggestion, but I'm still curious....did you use the DOD valley cover or a non-dod LS3 cover?? Ron

You can find some pretty good info on the subject in these two threads ** Info to eliminate DOD?** and **5.3 LH6 Progress and Problems ** Ron

From my understanding, any engine not equipped with DOD did not have the towers drilled.

So why then did GM manufacture the non-DOD valley cover with those bosses cast into it directly over each DOD tower?

To the best of my knowledge, ALL of the GEN lV engines had the towers. This would be aluminum blocks with front mounted cam sensors, from around 2005. LS2's, some 5.3's in SUV's, Corvettes, etc. The ones I have seen have all had the towers drilled, but are not all DOD engines. The LS2 6.0 in my '34 coupe has the towers drilled but runs a larger cam and normal hydraulic roller lifters. It has the flat valley cover with the o-rings sealing off the towers. We have an aluminum block 5.3 Gen lV out of a 2005 GMC Envoy that has all the proper parts for DOD...solenoids, drilled towers, the DOD lifters and the valley cover with the passages to the solenoids, but, like **Geezer** mentioned in his thread, I don't think it was ever operational. Anyway, we've got the heads off, so we're going to change out the DOD parts, and since the o-rings are apparently unavailable, I'm going to tap the towers for 1/8" pipe plugs as suggested in the post by *LS1MCSS*

You wouldn't by chance have a picture of that would you? I wouldn't have any trouble making the plate, but how did you handle the boss at the back for the oil pressure sender? Or, did you just seal it off and tap in at another location?

Put the block on a stand, upside down. Put some grease on the tap before you start. That will make almost all of the shavings stick to it. When you're finished, use a shop vac to finish cleaning the holes out.

Yes, the cover on the 6.0 in my '34 coupe is exactly like that, and the one my friend bought off Ebay is also like that. His came with no o-rings or perimeter gasket. The answer to your first question can be found in a thread titled *gm part numbers*. It's in the conversions forum and by now probably 2-3 pages back. Another guy on here was looking for the same info and John @ Scroggin gave this answer to **S10xGN**. If I've got it right...he says the perimeter gasket is available for around 20 bucks + S&H but the o-rings are on national back order with no shipping date, in other words NOT AVAILABLE. John still didn't give any part #'s. Hope this helps, Ron

Dude, go to the local GM parts house, ask for the gasket set for a 2006 corvette. Easy enough, right?

Dude??...You must have a lot better GM parts store than the ones in my neighborhood. The ones here carry very little in stock. They order it from the warehouse, and as I mentioned....John@Scroggin Dickey said they are on national back order. UNAVAILABLE. If you have a better source, please share!
I did get a local Auto Zone man to contact the Fel-Pro factory rep. At first he said the only way they could sell them was in a full set, somewhere north of $250.00. He called back later and said they actually did have them under this Fel-Pro #MS96871.
UPDATE!! I tried to find this number several places online last night with no luck. This morning, I called Fel-Pro's tech line (1-800-325-8886). The guy I spoke to said the number IS GOOD, but he had only received the info yesterday. He said the number is just now being released, but is not available yet. It looks like we are back to square one. Ron
