Default LS7 Carbon Fiber Intake Manifold

Hi guys,

Just wanted to show you what I have been working on for the last couple of years. This is a carbon fiber (7layers x 0.2mm - 3K 2x2 twill cloth from Japan) intake manifold with long runners. The runners have been through numerous iterations to maximise the flow at higher RPM while still maintaining good low-RPM torque. The plenum has also been optimised for the lowest possible volume without affecting significantly flow for good throttle response.

The CNC aluminium flanges contain a taper to the larger runners that allows the LS7 heads to be ported by about 1.5mm to take full advantage of the runners. The injectors also fire at a better angle and position compared to the standard GM. Throttle body also contains a taper to allow a standard TB to connect to the manifold. The TB can be ported to allow a free flowing 100mm diameter TB if desired.

Here in Australia, the LS7 is very scarce, but I managed to get hold of a stock engine in a Holden Commodore and we did a pure bolt on with no tuning or modifications to the other intake components. Let me say that the LS7 intake is extremely efficient and I was hoping to be at least even on a bone stock engine due to the larger runner diameters and slightly shorter length. Well, we picked up about 8HP over the stock engine and had a longer torque curve. The engine lost a little bit of power under 3000rpm, but this was to be expected.

Where this intake will shine will be above 500HP, where the stock intake starts to restrict the intake charge (and with tuning).

Jamie

are you going to be making enough to sell at any reasonable price...like in the range of a sheet metal?

Price would be reasonable (less than most expect). The problem I will have is making them in any sort of volume. I have a day job and this is done on the side... most people dont know how much time it takes to put one of these babies together.

That is definitely a nice piece!
Now, you know i gotta ask...will you make an L92 intake like that?
Curious to know the price of the LS& one that you have.

LS3/L92 style is relatively easy to do. It would have the same runners and plenum and then port matched within the 1/2" of flange length (basically just different CNC flanges). I already have some flanges made up, just not a complete manifold - maybe in about a month.

The intake is very low profile (not too much higher than stock) and will fit under Corvette hoods.

...I will be offline till Sunday, so will answer further questions then.

I find it really strange that you're losing low end torque with longer runners. What do you think could be the cause of this? Have you tried running a larger plenum?

Looks SICK btw
