On several applications (our Nitrous also) we have observed metal transfer from the cap to the main mating surface. This happens on a lot of high horsepower applications as well as engines that have detonated (ours did)

Brian Thomson installed 11MM studs in place of the standard 10MM studs. I was told that the increase in camping force was 18%.

With a better tune and the studs we have not had any metal transfer since going to the 11MM studs.

Of course this is one of the upgrades that a competent shop could provide on a 1200+ horsepower build

Can you not just be happy with the fact that alot of the main issues have been addressed? Obviously this new block caters to alot of complaints/problems, but honestly it is not made to please everyone, nor can it. There is always something that was not done right or needs to be changed. Maybe sometime in the future it will change in those respects as well. Being cost effective is the main strong point of this block. For one of the very few out there of its kind, its not a bad starting place.

The old block with a main girdle also did not show any signs of metal transfer on the caps and factory sized fasteners at enough power to go 160 to the 1/8 mile.

The main journals/caps on the new block are made to be honed anyway, so it would not cost extra to have that job done, just to have the holes cut for a larger stud.

I understand that there's no making/keeping everyone happy... I was just surprised that a couple other things weren't addressed that's all. I'm sure GM had the data as to Robin's findings.

The block is a great piece and has allowed the ls community to grow 10 fold in the racing end of things, and the fact that they made changes at all to make the block a better piece is fantastic, especially with the government's hands in GM now.

It was more an observation that the couple things alot of people saw weren't changed/adjusted for.... it's not nessassarily a bad thing, as it leaves the options open for the individual's needs, 1/2 of which will never need anything more then the blcok in standard form.

Tall deck/alum version is what I personally am waiting for. But if I had to build today, the new revised block is certainly my most likly choice.

And i meant no disrespect in what i posted. Just saying like you, that this block is headed in the right direction. It still needs to be proven well in the real world....again lol. We are churning them out as soon as they come in as well.

It's been a popular block in the past, and it will no doubt remain so. We're excited about the changes so far, and I'm sure there will be more changes in the future as well. The best part is the new supplier should really help resolve the availability issues that would come up before. Some things that would benefit a few people if changed just might not make sense on the large scale, like 11mm main studs, since most people don't need them and it would add expense to every build as opposed to just having to make that modification in the applications that need it.

We are all excited about the tall deck too I wouldn't hold my breath for too long on the aluminum version though.

The alum version, unfortunately I think is a dream at this point.

But, I hear the tall deck is on the way soon I hope they spread the bottom out a little so we can really put some stroke to it

4.155 bore 4.6 inch stroke, here I come

So the new block may become a "shelf" item regularly in stock?

I believe the manufacturing country or point of origin must be affixed to the shipping crate - does this say Made in India, Made in Taiwan, Made in Canada or better yet Made in U.S.A.???
