A little update:

Richard has the heads and is checking them over. He will be running his new program on the heads and reports 380CFM on the intake with the 2.20 intake valve. We're also replacing the stock L92 exhaust with some nice stainless valves which should flow a little better themselves.

Ed reports that the engine is going together. Crank was in good shape. A little polishing and it's in the block. Pistons and rods ready to go in. We did talk about some cam ideas pending the results of the current cam. It will be tested on the engine dyno so changing the cam is no big deal if we go that way.

They are crazy busy and taking pics is well down the list but we'll see.

You know I'm not chasing a number at the expense of drivability but we don't want to leave anything on the table either - as long as it drives perfectly.

That will be Ed's job!

couple new pics

crank installed

degreeing the cam-every cam installed at Virginia Speed get checked on the Cam Pro Plus to verify it's made correctly and every cam get degreed in.There is no guessing.

Want to thank Edelbrock for making a two piece cover that fits nothing. After an hour of milling and grinding i got it to fit.Thank god we didn't have a double roller chain on it.

we tig weld the reluctor wheels on to eliminate the wheel spinning on the crank and creating problems

this is the piston at bdc,the extra length of the sleeves really help support the pistons here

well, the shortblock is together waiting on some heads.

Nice work as always... curious how a company like Edelbrock could release a product like that. I mean wtf, don't they check and test the products before release?

Great info,

question when tig-ing the reluctor to the crank are you worried about the balance or becuase its relatively close to the center line no need to worry?

With the tig he shouldn't need any other add "material" to make the weld bond and should be able to keep the exact same weight at the crank.

We've been cruising the Carribean for the past week and were incommunicado. Heads should be back at VA Speed any day now.

Now I can't get back to NoVa until Tuesday. All flights cancelled because of the snow in the Dc area. Oh well, two more days to check out San Juan.

LOOKING GOOD SHAWN!!

Yeah the snow sucks, we got over three feet here in Manassas however my Vette is safely locked away for the winter. Now I get to drive the tow vehicle everywhere.

Engine is looking good; I am envious. Might need to get Shawn to convert mine back to Mass Air this weather is playing havoc with the Speed Density tune from Texas.

We're back in NoVa. We were the last flight into Dulles. Time to get back to work and thinking about this build.

Welcome back Kevin. Glad you made it in safely. What kind of time frame are we talking about on the completion of your build ? Not how long before its in your car, but how long before its on the engine dyno getting some run time to break in? Looking fwd to seeing the cam testing that may or may not take place. Your baseline should be strong with the extra cubes.

Again glad to see you made it back safely. Now how about posting up a thread about the hotties you snapped pics of while on vacation ! LOL !!! Gotta love those Local Latina Beauties.

Looks like you are well into Plan D= displacement

With a similar history with 346, 402,416 and now 441 and ported 821 heads what is going to be a big surprise ( good and bad) is your torque gain with the new motor. The good news is the strong lower end but that has its consequences in terms of traction and clutch capabilities. Even with 315 rears tires, launching is a pedeling act and after 3 "Max duty" clutches I am using a carbon twin disc. With a C5, I now think it is possible to have too much torque.
Ridiculous, but true, IMO.

Sounds like a good problem to have. One big thing I loved about the 403 build was that the tip in was insane. Romp the throttle from idle and light up the rear wheels. Not efficient but a hell of a lot of fun. I run 315 PS2's and traction was elusive. The LG coilovers did seem to eliminate the wheel hop though which was a huge problem for the car. BTW: the POWRMAF wotks great.

I don't have wheel hop but do have a smooth lack of traction which is no treat. I have tuned the cam on 441s to favor higher end hp vs lower end torque and the difference in fun and effect is dramatic. I am going to to re-cam mine, to move the torque to the right. Might not do that for a Camaro but the Vette is lighter, more cambered and a bit more fragile out back.

Seriously, it is not a good problem to have IMO.

Shawn and Ed both want to try a different cam which will do just that.
