The brakes article is cool. The Gen IV 3-valve article is better...But this is my favorite...

The 6.3L version of the engine will produce 500hp for example.

Looks like ZO6 is going Viper hunting in a big way. :D

LOL

That's really cool stuff, 3 valves, pushrods, DOD, and 500hp 6.3L motors!

Lets just hope it works as good as it looks or GM will have serious egg on it's face for sticking to pushrod engines.

Traitor!!! :p

J/k. Vipers are definitely sweet cars. I've always loved the way the GTS looked, but the power coming out of the 03 SRT-10 really tickles my fancy.

what do you guys think of the twin disc brake system? I see one problem with it, the fact that there are two disc's mean they would most likely be thinner, so what happens when one side of a caliper goes out and maybe bends the rotor? Might not be possible, but you never know.

I like that we are moving in a progresion, first you had the L98 then that was improved upon by the LT1, then GM through out all stops and brought out the LS1 now this motor. Its cool to see GM is moving in a positive direction. The Vette is one pf my favorite sports cars because its aforrdable and you get 3x the car then what you paid for. This next generation I hope holds the same true.

Doesn't look good to me unless they go with vanes in the brakes. They kept it thin to save space between the calipers and pads. That's like putting two rear 2000 deville brakes into one without and cooling. Hard use of them can crack/fail the rotor from heat fatigue.

The thinner material should disapate heat with few problems, with 2 discs you are doubling the surface area.
With twice the surface area you will only need half the friction to stop the car there fore generating less heat.
As for one side of a caliper going outon this system there is only one side, there are no pins to freeze up. You could also expect twice the milage out of a set of brakes. On the down side you have a much greater cost when you do need brakes. Also when the caliper starts leaking/not working you need to replace a spindle witch isnt cheap on current cars with no integrated caliper. So now you will have 2 "floating" discs, what happens when one of them freezes up. And lastly I just want to bitch about brake by wire, what happens when you do a panic stop on the e-way and your bpps " brake pedal position sensor" fails?

You folks raise some good points. One of the things that jumped out at me was the reduction in infrastucture. The smaller booster, smaller diameter discs the tighter packaging ...

It will make upgrading more difficult ...

Floating discs and fixed calipers is a good trend, though.
