We have seen problems with adding that much stroke to a 2 bolt main block as it does side load the caps and will cause them to walk in there registers.

Here is a good link to look over on this.

If you have the coin, convert to a 4 bolt main. The two bolt main blocks were thicker around the main caps compared to 4 bolt blocks. So it will actually be alittle stronger.

I have made plenty of power with a 2 bolt without any issues, but i wont go above 6000 RPM too often and i make sure the machine shop does assure everything is correct with the block. I used studs not bolts usually. There is a guy running 9s with a 86 TA with a bone stock 2 bolt short block, i want to see what the bottom end if that 350 looks like.

And studs make the stock caps stronger?? They are still a grey cast cap. Like adding ARP rod bolts to an old set of rods they don't make the old rods any stronger its just better hardware.

I wish I could base my info on just one engine!!

Splayed caps will do it, but you might as well find a 4-bolt main if you are going to that much trouble. I have seen alot of 2-bolt blocks run fine for a long time with 500+hp, I have a friend who makes 700whp with a 2-bolt 383. With that setup you will be perfectly fine. BTW Zane I know the car you are talking about and was trying to find the story on it the other day but couldnt. I think it was in gmhightechperformance mag, please find a link to it for me. That car was amazing, he ran multiple 9 sec passes with a stock tbi motor with 140,000 miles on it and stock gn turbos.

george i was thinking the same thing and its not worth it, if it was a 400 block with 2 bolts then yeah thats a good deal, but a 350 with a 2 bolt main should not be hot rodded which is what you and i do. if you want a gen 2 roller i can get one ready for the machine shop for a couple hundred and you will be much better off

^correct, 87-up roller is the best choice
