Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - 4:11's too much??? sbc 400??

im going to be running a sbc 406 in my 70 elcamino. i have not decided 100% on automatic or a 4 speed. i wnt it to do very good at the track 11.00 sec or better. motor will have 550 n/a along with a 150 shot for good measure.
whats every ones in put on the 4:11's????????

it depends on what trans you are going with. you dont want 4.11's with to low of a 1st gear. for example i have 4.10's in my truck with a th700r4. the first gear is really low (i think like 3.06 or something), but traction suks when i hammer it in first gear. i am eager what others have to say.

well if i go automatic its gonna be either a th350 or th400

What will it be used for, track only, minor track use?

it is not my daily driver so that is not an issue. and i hope it see's some good track time.

4:10'sor 4:56's w/ a turbo 350 work great w/a 406 sbc if it's not your daily driver.

i still need a converter, probably 3000 stall maybe 3500.

A 3500 stall would work great and w/4:11's you could always play w/ your tire height by going taller for less gear or shorter for more gear.

Yep, 4.10s are great with a car that is not street driven, especially if you have a 3 speed. Make sure to run a 28 inch tall tire.

oh i have 28" M/T et streets right now so im ready. i think the 4:11 will def get me down the track in a hurry on my 3 speed. and if need be i could go to a 29 or 30" tire too. i have plenty of room.

ls7junkie.....you run high 9's in the 1/4? what gears and tranny you run?

my set up is similar to yours, except im running a 406. and was told i would run low 11's high 10's

yes i will be using a trans brake as well. along with a line lock of coarse.
