I have a 355 and was going to get a new set of heads and I am not sure which ones would be best. First off here is what I have. It is a 355 with flat top pistons it has an old comp magnum cam (specs are 244@50 with 501 lift) I have a wiend stealth intake and an edelbrock 750 carb. Exhaust is 1 5/8 longtubes with 2 1/2 exhaust. It is in an S10 pickup. It has a Th400 with 3200 stall and 3.73 gears. There is a guy on ebay selling Iron Eagles bare for 399.00. I can either get the 180cc or 200cc which ones will be a better choice for my setup?

yeah but those old heads that are on it do not have accessory holes. I am having a hard time figuring out how to mount the alternator. I dont want to use the old F bracket that bolts under the header bolts, and there isnt enough room for a low mount. So I thought that was a good excuse for a set of aftermarket heads. lol

I would use the 200cc heads, but i would spend the money for a set that are assembled.

go with the 200cc's and leave room to grow without having to buy new heads. what kind of heads do you have now? i am assuming fuelie heads since you said no acc. holes.

I was told that they were 1967 327 heads. Is a new set going to make a huge difference? When I did the heads and cam on my LS1 it was like night and day. I just dont want to be disappointed.lol Maybe someone has a better choice for me.

Those old fuelie heads are outdated and flow nothing to the aftermarket, even the cheap aftermarket parts do WAY better.

Well the wife cleared me to get the AFR 180 heads. I think they should give me a pretty good boost. I do have 1 question though. I am going to also switch to a roller cam by comp, with 230/236 @50 with 510 and 520 lift on a 110lsa. Will this give me PTV clearance issues?

The clearance should be fine, but you need to check it anyway. Those heads are excellent, and that cam will work very well with them. You will be very happy with them.

I ran a set of 72/200cc iron eagles on my 357 and they were a great improvement, had dual springs fully assembled with screw in studs and guide plates for cheap. Alan grove has brackets for use with the acc if your using heads without the holes.

You sholdtn have any ptv cleance issues at all. but you can put some clay on the pistion and just put the head on and turn it over by hand a few times. i have ran way bigger than that with afr 220s

DEFINITELY step it up to the AFR 195, if not the 210.

The reason I was wanting the AFR 180's is because the have 2.02 valves and the 195's have 2.08 valves. I am affraid that the valves wont clear the pistons then I open a whole new can of worms.

the 195's have a 2.05, not a 2.08. They will clear just fine. As long they're not stock pistons, they will clear just fine...

Yeah its the competition package that has the 2.08 valve. The standard valve is the 2.05. Well if they will clear then I guess maybe I will get the 195's. thanks

DEFINITELY get the 195's. They still have a moderate intake cross section but have awesome flow velocity and breathing capabilities. They outflow just about any 200cc head and alot of 210's! Excellent for street/strip and are capable of 500 hp out of the box. At minimum, you'll want a Performer RPM intake. The Stealth is good, but the RPM is better.

Yes get the 195`s,, its going to blow your mind how much power you gain, I went from 12.50 with ported double humps to 11.60s with afrY 220s that i bought bare and ported myself.I am sure the porting from afr is better than mine. Then i traded for some 210 and put the engine in a monza and went. 10.24 @131

Hey man....
The only come 100% CNC ported (and stop yelling!.....LOL)
Even the street heads (the less expensive version) are 100% CNC ported.
To the OP....you need to give serious consideration to the new Eliminator AFR's....they arent just a little better than the budget competition....we are talking about doubling your gains from the swap.
Do some homework before you pull the trigger.
Our former 195's (pre-Elinimator versions) were arguably the top of the heap in aftermarket bolt on 23' heads....but the difference between a few of our close competitors had tightened up. Enter the new Eliminators....check the gragh and info below
