I'm planning out a budget oriented 383 gen I sbc.

Bottom end is a 2 piece seal.

Crank:

Going to use the stock 5.7 rod. Block will be decked to .000"

What speed pro hypereutectic piston will give me 10 or 10.5:1 compression using a steel shim gasket?

Not only am I getting overwhelmed trying to figure out the compression ratio, but I'm not sure which pistons are for 383's!

It depends on what compression you want and what kinda heads you're gonna use. Go through summit racing and they have kits that run as low as $350. They are speed pro pistons with coated skirts and for a little more you can get the forged pistons. You get the gaskets, rings, bearings, just about everything you need for a short block rebuild. I got a kit for my LT1 and used a forged kit and only paid under $400. I have my engine pushing 385hp to the rear wheel. Its a good kit.

If you are going to zero deck the block, you don't want to run a thin shim head gasket. You'll want your quench pad to be around .04", with that shim gasket your pistons will be smacking the heads. I run these -12cc pistons in my 383:

I run 62cc heads, zero deck and a felpro .039" gasket and that gives me ~10.4 static compression.

Did you have your heads milled to attain the -2 cc?

Also, do you have any problems running pump gas?
