I saw a part of it last night, its got some kid and a toyota and a guy with his full size chevy sayin hes got a v8 and still gets better gas mileage. I cant find it anywhere on the net.
I just thought it was cool, like the only chevy ad that seemed to stand out lately. Something different besides a car driving down the road followed by a red tag/employee pricing sale segment :eyes:

That new dodge truck kicks ass, and looks good doing it. Sad thing is I'm not a dodge fan. FORD = Fuckup Or Rebuilt Dodge

We can go by stats all you want. But in the real world, where test have been performed, they have lost.

when talking about the 6.2 i can believe that but not with the 5.3 my dad averages 19mpg with 50/50 city highway and thats real world results.

Some people on Tundrasolutions are getting 20-22 with their 5.7 liter. It's hard to make a comparison, without knowing the variables involved.

and now the 5.3 has a 6 speed so it should get a good boost in mpg aswell

yeah probably all highway driving going 65 the whole time, doubt it could get near that with any city driving.

The 5.3 gets good gas mileage, but it is pretty weak compared to the 6.0/6.2 and the 5.7 in the Tundra. 1-2mpg shouldn't be the deciding factor when buying an automobile anyway.

I saw the one where they make fun of the Dodge truck's heated steering wheel. I thought it was pretty clever. All in all, I'm happy to FINALLY see some marketing coming from GM.

well most people dont need more towing capability than the 5.3 and the better mpg just makes it that much of a better buy

I read the new Motortrend and Trucktrend(I believe it was TT) and they stated differently. Why should I believe one over the other? Especially when multiple magazine are getting the same results.

And most people that have F-bodies will never race, and most people that buy 4x4s never go offroad, and most people that buy SUVs would be better off with a minivan. That's not the point. There are those that want and need more power than the 5.3 offers.

I'm not the only one posting from a magazine :eyes:! Secondly, what other resources do we have in order to make comparisons? Third, reviewing results from a mpg comparo, hardly constitutes as "magazine racer"!

How about manf ratings and the EPA. The EPA is not Bias.

then they could buy the 6.2 if they want or need the power. all i was saying was that the 5.3 is a good all around engine that will fit most peoples needs.

that and they the EPA says the LS1 Vette's were supposed to get 24-26 on the highway. i get 31-33 with a heads/cam/bolt on car. Go figure. My dad's '08 Silverado gets 20-21 and my 2000 Silverado gets 22-23 on highway but it's a 4.8 V8 and a 5 speed. It also gets run up pretty hard and needs a plugs and wires change.

And all I was saying was that if people need/want more power than the 5.3, then they are going to get worse gas mileage. Whether it be with the Tundra's 5.7 or the GM offering's 6.0/6.2. You can't just say "well the Silverado gets better mileage than the Tundra" because of the 5.3, because they aren't comparable engines.

Whats wrong with the 5.3? Its a great all around truck motor, I drove a 2008 silverado 4x4 through mountains, up and down curvy roads and to the beach here in the west coast and it responded beautifully.....it never felt underpowerd
As you can see GM has way more truck options than toyota by far

obviously if you want more power your going to have to suffer a little mpg but even compared to the toyota 4.7 the chevy 5.3/4.8 both beat it with hp and mpg.

When did I say anything was wrong with the 5.3? It's a fine motor, but some people want more than 315hp in their 6,000lb truck. Those are the people that get the 6.0/6.2. Again with you putting words in my mouth.

I agree, the 4.7 needs to be replaced/re-developed.

Well it was just a number I threw out there, but a Crew Cab 4x4 Silverado with the 5.3 weighs 5348lbs... 6,000lbs with a few people and their stuff in it ain't far off. Some people want more than 315hp for stuff like that.
