I have a 2000 WS6. I have been trying to read the numerous threads on adding an auxillary component to the factory Monsoon head unit. From what I have read, it depends on if your head unit was equipped to handle a CD changer.

Without removing the head unit, is there another way to tell? Does a factory Monsoon head unit have a seperate button on the front for aux or CD changer?

No. How it works is you push the CD/Play button twice and it switches to the AUX input box you have attached to the back of the headunit. If you have a 2000+ headunit then it is practically guaranteed to work.

No hacking please.
Replace the headunit with a later one (2001-2002 CD preferred) or get an aftermarket one.

Price varies widely between $25 - $100 depending on who's selling it. Check out the For Sale section. Sometimes there is someone there selling one

raisuli81 wants $70 for his 2002 T/A headunit. I'd suggest talking him down on the price since x99sscamarox has his 1999 Camaro headunit listed for $30, although you need a 2000+ headunit so you can't use x99sscamarox's anyway.

GM9-AUX converts the CD-Changer port to AUX-IN.

The GM9-AUX will work with any f-body Monsoon headunit that is capable of controlling the factory CD-Changer.
1998-2002 Cassette
2000-2002 CD (some late 1999 as well, only way to tell is to open it and look at a code on the circuit board)

It is such b.s. that a 2000 has it and a 1999 doesentWhen I bought my car in Feb. 97, the first thing I did was buy the changer. The second thing I did was take it back; it only worked with the tape deck unit (what dumazz thought THAT was a good idea?).

My 1999 t/a ws6 was built in october 1998 and when I bought it new it had the cd player in dash and the 12 disk factory changer in the hatch. So.....some 99's can control the factory changer. Otherwise mine was just a freak, but I highly doubt it.

The changeover happened roughly mid-99 model year. The only way to know weather or not it will work is to open it and check the ID printed on the motherboard (there was a thread a while back showing it but I can't find it), or hook it up and try it. If you are looking to buy a new one, its not worth the hassle. You are better off buying a 2000+ model (2001+ preferred since supposedly they can control an AUX input via an adapter and also the CD-Changer with it whereas the 2000 is one or the other, not both -- this is unconfirmed though).
