Corvette Rumble Class Rules

1st Annual C4/C5/C6 Corvette Shootout Event

CORVETTE RUMBLE (INDEX) CLASS:

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Chevrolet’s C4/C5/C6 Corvettes are one of the finest performance automobiles ever produced…period! NMCA’s C4/C5/C6 Shootout is designed to bring some of the coolest and fastest C4/C5/C6 Corvettes to race each other and find out who has the skills to take home the big prize. The Corvette Rumble class will pair 1984 and newer Corvettes, with widely varying ET and MPH potential, to compete against each other in an all-inclusive index-style format. The following are the rules for the Corvette Rumble class:

• For any 1984 and up Corvettes with factory type LS or LT based GM small block engine combinations only.
• Vehicles must have factory fuel injection or aftermarket fuel injection (no carburetion allowed).
• All races are on a .500 Pro Tree and in an index format.
• This will be an ALL RUN qualifying format.
• Vehicles are required to be stock appearing and stock bodied.
• Stock type independent rear suspension required. Replacing stock parts (axles, ring/pinion etc.) for strength and safety permitted.
• Mini tubs are allowed as long as vehicle has stock-type suspension as described above.
• DOT slicks and racing slicks permitted with a 12.00” (10.5W) maximum width. Drag radials are permitted in any size.
• All vehicles MUST pass NHRA safety inspection for ET and speed.
• A sportsman ladder will determine running order based off Saturday evenings qualifying round, closest to index without exceeding.
• Vehicles must be driven to staging and to scales, can be towed after scales.
• Vehicles are required to run sponsor decals.
• Delay boxes, cross-over boxes, or any “reaction-time related” electronic bracket racing aids prohibited in this class. Throttle stops and all related throttle-stop type accessories prohibited. Trans. brakes permitted.

CLASS DESIGNATIONS/INDEXES:

Following the completion of Friday and Saturday’s time runs each Corvette Rumble driver will be required to select an Index and officially submit it to the Event Coordinator prior to Saturday evening’s qualifying session. There will be a single qualifier Saturday evening to establish a qualifying order. In eliminations on Sunday morning a 32 or less car field will be laddered on a sportsman ladder. When the field reaches 32 cars or less a sportsman ladder for the number of cars remaining will be used to pair the cars. Car placement on the ladder will be determined based on closest to index (without breaking out) for the last round that was randomly paired. If you fail to declare your index you will, automatically be put in the AA index.

World’s Fastest C4/C5/C6 Corvettes Specialty Awards:

One of the great features of the NMCA’s C4/C5/C6 Corvette Shootout is the ability to determine, on the national stage, who has the world’s fastest Corvettes. C4, C5, or C6 generations, who has the fastest overall Corvettes? While we’re at it, who has the fastest overall naturally aspirated, nitrous assisted, blown or turbocharged C4, C5 and C6 Corvettes? The world will find out when the NMCA produces its Corvette Shootout in Bowling Green, KY, the home of the Corvette.

The NMCA will present the following specialty awards on the Saturday of the C4/C5/C6 Corvette Shootout for each generation of Corvette – C4, C5 and C6 (12 Winners Total):

• Fastest Naturally Aspirated Plaque + Jacket
• Fastest Nitrous Assisted Plaque + Jacket
• Fastest Supercharged Plaque + Jacket
• Fastest Turbocharged Plaque + Jacket

Rules for above awards:

• Competitors must be entered in the Corvette Rumble class.
• Vehicles must meet all Corvette Rumble class rules.
• It is each competitor’s responsibility to submit his/her claim for one of the above awards to the Corvette Shootout coordinator at the end of day on Saturday, May 2nd, at the completion of qualifying. Shootout coordinator will introduce himself to all competitors as they arrive at the shootout and will fully explain procedures for submitting timeslips for the awards listed above.

Special awards will be given to the overall World’s Fastest C4, C5 and C6 Corvettes (blown, supercharged, nitrous assisted or naturally aspirated). These awards will be presented on the starting line on the Sunday of the event and the times used for determination will come from Saturday’s three time trial passes.

Alcohol is not permitted. E85 is permitted multiple power adders is ok. If you plan to run quicker than 8.50 I hope you have a SFI 25.5 Certified Chassis and you meet all of the other safety requirements for your time and speed. What ever index you declare you have to run that index or you will break out during eliminations if you run quicker than your index . Whatever you run during your time runs is up to you but after your time runs are completed on Friday and Saturday you have to declare an index before you qualifier on Saturday evening to put yourself on the ladder.

From the rules:

Following the completion of Friday and Saturday’s time runs each Corvette Rumble driver will be required to select an Index and officially submit it to the Event Coordinator prior to Saturday evening’s qualifying session. There will be a single qualifier Saturday evening to establish a qualifying order. In eliminations on Sunday morning a 32 or less car field will be laddered on a sportsman ladder. A 33 or greater car field is randomly paired until the field reaches 32 cars or less. When the field reaches 32 cars or less a sportsman ladder for the number of cars remaining will be used to pair the cars. Car placement on the ladder will be determined based on closest to index (without breaking out) for the last round that was randomly paired. If you fail to declare your index you will, automatically.

In other words the time runs do not count but the 1 qualifier Saturday evening counts to establish qualifing order.

I know of 3 other C5's plus myself that want to come out to this event but it's a long way to come to race all out racecars ( For the overall fastest title ) . Can you at least even the playing field and have an Extreme class for cars with Powerglides and Turbo-400 trans and parts like race blocks , completely different race ignition systems , Racepaks , Air to water intercoolers , etc , and have a class for A4 Overdrive trans cars , or a class for the fastest GM based block ( has to be LS1 , LS2, LS3 , LS6 , LS7 ) . A fastest Extreme Corvette class and Fastest Street Corvette class would be a lot more fair and attract more cars IMO .

If not then you might as well let solid axle cars race also . If you want this event to grow there needs to be more strict rules and more evenly matched classes that restrict turbo/blower size , type of engine blocks , trans etc . More classes like the Mustang series , at least there you can build the car for a particular class .

The Corvette shootout is an index style race with a bonus for the fastest Naturally aspirated and the three different power adders on the property that fit within the Rumble rules. As long as the cars fit within the Rumble class rules they can be part of the show. This is not a heads up event so it's a level playing field. All we are doing is rewarding the fastest Corvettes on the property. This is the first year for the event if it's successful then possibly next year we might add a heads up class but until we see we get enough support we will keep it one class for now. I'll repeat myself again this is not a HEADS-UP event. We are listening to your suggestions but this event and it's rules and classes are locked for 2009. Once again I would Like to thank NOS for sponsoring this class.

I have run plenty of protree but was talking about spotting on protree!
