Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - The hole in the crank shaft for a T5(swap)?

Hi guys,i was talkin to the guys(bodyman/mechanics) at work about swaping a t5 in my 89 formula LB9/700..and he was saying that it might or might not have the hole in the crank shaft for the T5 pilot bearing..is there anyway to findout if it has it..they said i could find out by reading the vin?

Never heard of some not having the pilot bearing hole. Both of my engines had them. You could try emailing CHP and see what they say. Sounds like BS to me though.

If the car came with the 700R4 automatic (or any automatic for that matter) then no it will not have a pilot bearing or pilot bushing in the end of the crank. You will need to purchase one (pilot bearing is better since its roller bearings) and install it for use with a manual transmission. "kevin91z"
thats what he said from thirdgen.org....i really hope ^ that is not true b/c i would love to swap it over..but you guys think they all have them?

GM loves to make things interchange as much as possible, they are not going to make one batch of cranks with the pilot bearing hole and some without.

they all have the pilot hole.
