Just curious who has done this. I have a fresh 355 with flat tops and 64cc TFS heads and am thinking about a weiand 144 or 177 on top of it. anyone done this and how long did it survive with low boost. not a forged bottom end:bang:. I am going to put this engine in my truck (it was basically free) and figure if it blows---well, it blows. Besides i have anuther block that i will be building for boost in the meantime. Thanks for responses in advance.

Hope your rings are gapped out a bit, other than that, low boost? Should last a while unless you drive like me:)

I bet it will work great...Let us know..:) Make sure you get premium fuel.. Aluminum heads will help it work ok... Keep the water temps down.. 160 stat? LT1 cars get away with 8psi all the time and they don't have the benefit of a carb and it's cooling effect on the fuel as it enters the engine. Then again most of those kits have intercoolers...hmmm A non aggressive ignition curve and a loose converter will make it's life a little easer also. Sounds like trial and error but what isn't.. haha
A thicker head gasket could drop compression right? or would that open up the quench too much and just make combustion worse even though compression dropped slightly? Somebody can chime in, you can't be the first! :) Goodluck.

Hey Shane how you doing?? As you can see i have a new build sice i decided to throw my cousins engine that he just had sitting in his garage while i rebuild my 391. I checked those cylinder walls on the 391 and they dont look good at all! So i decided to play with this 355 in the meantime. So to answer your question, the engine (355) has not been decked and it has the steel core Fel Pro gaskets. Thanks

It's busy (100 plus hrs. a work week) getting things done for ConocoPhillips/Energen Resourses and the kick off of the circle track race season. You should only be 9.28:1 compression with the above supplied info. With your elevation and the compression ratio you should be able to run 8-9 lbs. of boost at your elevation only! I wouldn't try to turn more than 6000 rpm with it and keep the timing conservative as well. I hope your 391 build goes well for you when your able to work on it again.

Thanks so much Shane. Glad things are goin well for you with the ecomony the way it is. Where would you say i should put the timing roughly?? I dont have the cam spec right now as i am at work. I will let you know later. thanks again man!

I would keep your total timing to 28-30 degree's, from there you will want to monitor you spark plug color to tune your carb to match.

That cam should put you perfectly in your rpm limit with the stock rods.

You could always add a methanol injection kit from snow performance to come on when the boost come up. That would cover your fuel concerns.
