i just got a 68 cj5 that has a 327 in it.the guy i got it from sais the engine is a 68 modle but didnt know what it was out of.

on the passenger side of the block right infront of the head it has this

18Z164876 TO62IEI

it also has 1 triangle on the front of each head.can anyone tell me anything about this engine or tell me where els to look to figure it out?

edit:i looked in the sticky and couldnt find anything there and even did a search for just the casting numbers and didnt get anything

im not really sure about the numbers stamped on the front, but if you look at the back of the engine on the passenger side it should have a block casting number in it, you can tell where the block came from

Hope this helps a little. But the casting numbers in the back of the engine would help alot. Also, you are missing a number in the front pad. It should have 8 numbers you only have 7. Recheck it again and post it up and I will get you more info.

look at the balancer if it doesnt have a center nut it is a small journal(pre 64), if it has nut its large journal. thats the fastest way

The diamond on the heads designates what heads they were. The ones to have were the double came hump heads. The different markings meant certain valve sizes in the heads and chamber size.
