Single Digit Club - Finally rowed her into the 9's

View Full Version : Finally rowed her into the 9's

The single digits have been eluding me for quite awhile. The 10.0's were heart breakers. Alot of people were trying to get me to put the auto in (almost gave in) by I really wanted it with the 6-speed.

The trans is bone stock with alot of abuse on it. Because of this I was very hesitant to power-shift (always speed shifted) it with the hp the car is currently making. Being so close to the 9's ,and with some prodding from my buddies, I couldn't resist.

Ran a string of low 10's on a fat tune. I added some timing, leaned her out, and let her have it launching at 6300rpm. Power-shifted every gear.

Came away with:

1.42 60'
4.169 330'
6.382 1/8
111.20 mph
8.286 1000'
9.881 1/4
142.51 mph

My wife came over to hand me the slip on the return road. She played it off well that it was just another 10sec slip. I almost crumpled it up and threw it in the back without looking at it. I looked down to see how she 60'd and was in total shock . It's been my goal from the beginning and hitting it finally was a sweet feeling :D.

Yeah it does:nod:. I see you've recently banged down that single digit yourself. Congrats!! Good luck on chopping some more time off that.

Here's the sheet and vid from the last dyno on 7-19-07. Tweeked a few things here and there but mph at the track has remained pretty consistent. Based on that I wouldn't expect the #'s to be much different today.

thanx man. im hoping to get a high 9.7 out of it at the least by the time its done. i def think the car has the potential. your car makes great power for a 346. my buddys 427 d1 car doesnt make that much rwhp. just lots of torque. and whats that loud ass whine your fuel pump?

What clutch are you running?
Bob

Cartek original design single disc, tick adjustable master, and a billet steel flywheel.

I've had this clutch in the car forever with tons of abuse and it's still going. I guess there's been some revisions to the design/material over the years but I've yet needed to try one of them out.

I just checked their site and didn't see any F-body support on it. Don't know if they still do or not. Guess it really has been a long time on this clutch:jest:.

and whats that loud ass whine your fuel pump?

Yep, that's the fuel pump. Magnafuel 4303. Can't really hear it between the exhaust, mondo bypass valves, and the radio turned up to 30 in order to hear it over the exhaust and bypass valves .

I have a couple questions for you. what gear ratio are you running and what size tire? I am really hoping to make a 9.9 pass this year with mine. managed a 10.5@136 last year shifting gears with a 10 bolt and 3.42 gears best 60 was a 1.8 Now I have a MWC fab 9 with 3.70 gears and some real tire under the back of the car. I also added Meth this year. Just need to get down to the track and run it.

I'm running a 3:73 trutrac in a Strange 12-bolt. The tires are M/T Drag 28-11.5-15's. Good luck on your quest for the 9's.

What heads and cam are you running? You maxed out that D1SC yet or little bit left to go.

Awesome man, epescially for a 6-speed and stock tranny :D.
What heads and cam are you running? You maxed out that D1SC yet or little bit left to go.

The heads are ported 5.3 litre 852 castings that had the combustion chambers opened up to 72cc's. Got them from APE when I had my motor built.
Cam is just a TR 224/227 5.63/5.69 114lsa.

Blower is maxed out as much as it can be. It's still under max impeller speed with the amount of slippage I'm experiencing with the small pulley. Have the SDCE and RR 3.10 blower pulley.

I may try running some race gas and "leaning" a little more on the tune. Currently run 93 octane and some alky injection.

What weight reduction is on the car? That thing weighs almost 500lbs less than mine!

This is it for the most part. Probably forgot a couple minor things +/-.

Didn't include the added weight like the blower kit, intercooler , alcohol pump/fittings, SFI bellhousing, chromoly roll bar, D/S loop, camera mount, laptop mount, gauges, fuel system components, fire extinguisher, 12bolt vs 10 bolt weight differential........
Put a few links to the threads I made during the weight reduction.

turndown before axle = ??
front sway bar/brackets = 14
spare tire/jack = 37lbs
Passenger seat = 32lbs
Radio/Amp/floor mats/change = 13lbs
Bogart Drag wheels/slicks/radial skinnys = ??
A/C compressor with all related parts = forgot the exact #
Door bars and bolts = 14.5lbs
Cruise control = 5lbs
Steering wheel with airbag = 5.5lbs
Airbag control module = 1.5lbs
Pass airbag = 14-14.5lbs
Firewall mat = 10.5
Aftermarket Amp wire = 3lbs
Carpet = 16lbs
Kmember = 29 lbs
Front brakes = 35lbs
Rear brakes = 31.5lbs
Parking brake = 12lbs
Odyssey Batt = 15lbs

Rear bumper support = 7lbs
Fender support = 3.5lbs
Hood = 24lbs
Kirkey = 15lbs (after some weight being canceled out by the addition of the harness, cover, back brace, and seat brackets)

Current total = -338lbs (roughly)

How much boost??? what fuel are you running????

15-16psi. Don't know exactly because it's a really quick glance. I don't have a boost recall gauge and I don't log it.
I always mean to take a look at the gauge in the top of 4th. Unfortunately I always forget while wrestling the shifter and car down the track. The street is even worse :jest:.

Fuel is Mobil 93 octane with 1 nozzle spraying denatured alcohol (alkycontrol kit).

Wait did I read that right? You removed brakes? How do you stop? Probably n00b question I know.

What your seeing is the weight loss due to the difference in the stock brakes/hardware vs the Strange drag brakes/hardware.
