Other Special Events - 4th Annual All-GM Oktoberfest at Silver Springs in Ocala, Florida October 3rd 2009!

The Fourth Annual All-GM Oktoberfest at the beautiful Silver Springs park in Ocala, Florida will be Saturday, October 3rd 2009. For those wanting to make a weekend out of it, Friday activities include a cruise from Ocala to Cedar Key Friday morning, a dyno day at NPD in the afternoon, plus NPD's 140-plus car collection will be open for viewing on Friday. The Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing is about 10 miles south off I-75 if you need even more car stuff before heading home on Sunday.

The 3rd annual show saw 637 cars and trucks enter the park for a sunny Saturday with temps in the mid 80s. 35 cars joined us for the first-ever Friday cruise from Ocala to Cedar Key.

Just for some background, NPD has also held a Mustang and Fords show in January at Silver Springs, a nature theme park in Ocala, Florida, for the past 15 years. We've always experienced great turnouts for this show (close to 1,100 cars and trucks made an appearance in 2009 from over 1,500 pre-registered), and besides all the rides to check out there is the attraction of having other things to do besides check out the cars, such as glass-bottom boats to check out the natural springs, a kids petting zoo, and more. We will also have a few select manufacturers in attendance to display their latest products and answer questions.

The first 500 cars to pre-register by September 26th will receive free entry into the park for car, driver and one passenger on Saturday. Any entry registering after that date, the day of show or beyond the 500-car threshold may purchase the show package for their GM car or truck for $21.00, and that still includes passes into the park for car/truck, driver and one passenger on Saturday October 3rd. PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning to attend but not show a car, you'll be subject to the standard park entrance fees ($34.99/general, $24.99 for children ages 3-10 as of January 1st 2009).

Registration is available for all GM models early or late, as well as all GM-powered street rods and exotics. Everything from bone stock to highly modified is welcome! :D

Also, be aware that this show is held inside the Silver Springs park. "Coming and going" with your car during show hours is neither practical nor allowed. Registration closes at 10 AM sharp, and awards will be presented at 4 PM. Don’t be late, as you will not be permitted to enter the park with your car after 10 AM.

Friday activities:

We will host a cruise and dyno day for the second time at this year’s GM show. The cruise will leave NPD between 9:30-9:45 AM. Cars begin assembling at 8 AM. Please arrive at NPD’s parking-lot fueled-up, and ready to go. Upon our return to NPD from Cedar Key (we typically have lunch on the water at Cedar Key), the opportunity to tour/browse NPD’s extensive private car and truck collection will be available, and VMP Tuning will be on-hand with their mobile Dynojet chassis dyno. Participants can make two pulls with A/F ratio for $60. The highest pull will receive a goodie bag from NPD.

The first 500 spots went quickly. The show is growing, and someday maybe we'll get to the level of our Ford and Mustang show (2009 was its 15th year, with over 1,000 cars showing up). We're up to 591 cars and trucks registered as of Monday the 6th.

We park similar models (F-body, Corvette, etc) together to help out in voting, but you can park a group of different models together IF YOU ARRIVE TOGETHER! We have a group gathering area just past the registration area outside the park, and once you assemble your group, proceed inside the park together and let one of the parking crew attendants you want to park a group together and how many are in your group so we can get you to the right area without blocking up traffic (keep in mind we had to park 650 cars in 3 hours last year, so every little bit of information helps).

I'm assuming you are refering to the fact we are past the "free 500" mark. The cost of pre-registering prior to the show vs. registering the day of show is the same.
The advantage of pre-registering is having your packet and information already completed in advance, versus doing it the day of show (takes a little longer the day of the show depending on the # of day of show registrants - 47 last year).

I don't expect mine to win anything, its my DD. So whenever it does I love it. I go to the shows for the fun, and participate just because its a little different. Yet I still can't wait for this! I'll be heading down tomorrow.. gotta do a quick clean on the car before leaving (waxxed and detailed last weekend so I could do a quick wash and dry this weekend lol), then the final wipedown in the AM saturday :)
