Hello all, new to this part of the forums. I'm getting ready to swear into the Missouri Air Guard next week and will be working at Whiteman. I've been waiting 7 months for a position to open up and i was hoping to get into integrated avionics. My recruiter finally called me yesterday and said they had 9 positions open with 30 people waiting to fill them. Unfortunately the only positions are Aircraft Structural Maintenance 2a7x3 and Munitions.
I'm not qualified for Munitions because i didn't pass the DP test nor is it something i would really want to do. 2a7x3 or LO (low observable) isn't something I really want to get into because I don't see it relating to the civilian world and I'll be part time. Now its possible the recruiter is bsing me about no positions for integrated avionics but I don't really think so. I've already been waiting 7 months. If I was joining the regular air force there would be probably more of a chance of getting into IA but I really don't want to join the regular air force.
Now from what little i've read about LO, it's not that desired of a position. But if thats what it takes to get my foot in the door i'm prepared to do that. Question is how hard is it to crosstrain? I know I'll probably have to do LO for a couple of years. Also does anybody know if LO sucks that bad? My recruiter was telling me that LO is the biggest shop on base with more room to move up which would be nice, compared to IA which he said is one of the smallest shops. He already said it might be 2 weeks or 2 months before another manning report came out which probably mean another 4-8 months. Also I would be working on the B-2's which would be cool :D
