Well, I have been trying to get my front bumper off of my '92 firebird for a while now. It has a crack in it, and will either be fixed or replaced.

I have been struggling to get the damn thing off, because of the bolts that are hidden behind the headlights, etc. I almost feel like cutting it off and just doing it that way, and taking the loss on the bumper just to get it off.

If anyone has any help or suggestions, or has taken the bumper off please let me know

Thanks in advance!!

-Anthony

I think it's safe to say that GM really never intended these to come off.

The engineering isn't to hot to say the least.

Anyone have any tips? How can I snake around the headlights, and would any of you think about just cutting the damn thing off and cutting your losses??

EDIT: I mean, it seems kind of retarded and redneckish.
But to tell you the truth I don't know if I have the resources to get the f'ing thing off.

Any input?

go from the bottom(long arms), 4 bolts on each side to the fender, and two hold the bumper support to the bumper/radiator support. its a major pita.

1) Remove the inner fender and do a strait shot with about 2 feet of extensions

2) Remove the headlight assembly and remove bolt from above

This is not very difficult

Be careful with the front ground effects, they are fragile and cost nearly as much as the entire bumper

I've taken a couple off of 92' Camaro and a 91' camaro and both times I just took the whole front end off (bumper + fenders). Just was the best way to do it for me because the bolts&nuts where the bumper & fender meet where rusted on & I just couldn't reach them.

That might be the way to go. I really don't want to do it, but I'm looking for the easiest way right now. Plus, it may be a blessing in disguise. I could clean some stuff up.

There are some bolts in places that I would never expect GM to put them.
WTH were they thinking?? lol

I have a 91 and 92 birds

Bolts are there for reasons, if you dont believe it leave them out and see what parts begins to fall off

I have left some "strategic" bolts out and did not have any trouble. But you cannot just leave any random ones out.

You know that they have plastic/urethane welders and it could quite possibly be repaired on the car? Might work out better for you.
