You guys probably answered this a zillion time, but one more time please.

I have the cassette head unit stock and (6) speakers. 2 front doors, 2next to seats and 2 in trunk.

What do you recommend?? I would prefer Alpine, Infinity or JBL, but give me all suggestions please.

I just changed out my factory speakers,Iwent with alpine 176a in the front as they are a component set like factory.Iput alpine 174a in back seat area,Ialso have 2 jl 10w3 in a qform box that fits right where youre storage area is.this is more sound than most people would ever want.Ididnt worry about the back 4 inch speakers they are just too small.

i dontunderstand why you would want to keep the stock head unit. for a good sound you really need to change that out i have an 02 TA and changed to CLARION head with serius satradio and all infinity speakers there is no better sound that i have heard in the rear i have built custom sub boxes to be recesed in to the walls of the trunk with 2 12in duel voice coil infinity perfect subs this system wasnt cheap but you get what you pay for if you are picky with things like this i wouldnt go for any thing less than perfect if you do go infinity i wouldnt go referance only kappa or perfect

because not changing the stock headunit but changing the speakers is a cheap minor upgrade to the sound... not everyone needs a competition system in their car... Its been proven since the Monsoon is amplified it can sound decent with new speakers

(even though I'll probably do one in my car anyway eventually hehehehe)

This is great info for people who would like to slowly upgrade a few components at a time rather than drop a couple grand in one shot.

Good job.

I have heard so many negatives against the small speakers in the hatchback area. I don't think I will mess with them when I change my system, maybe just take them out all together. I was thinking about replacing the 6 1/2 by the rear seats with components, but I have to research if it will work with the monsoon system. Would that be too much trouble?

Using the Monsoon amp and replacing the sail panels with components = less bass, and the tweeters wouldnt play because those rear channels have a low pass filter on them.

Yeah, I figured that wouldn't work. That's gonna suck rewiring the car, but I guess it will be worth it since I'll be upgrading stuff throughout the years. :judge:

even a 100$ jvc deck is a MASSIVE improvement..more then JUST speakers will do

Maybe If you like distortion in your music... There really is no sound difference... the signal is input line level to the factory amp and the amp runs it at its own levels so its sent to the speakers. the only thing youre giving better power to is the tweeters which maybe makes a slight clarity diference (and more likely add distortion) but not enough to justify the change instead of replacing the speakers.

i changed my headunit in my grand am and it made a HUGE difference on the sound, i changed my head unit cuz i added 2 10's and its soo much easier to hook up subs with pre-outs, i was also planning on buying all new speakers but no longer need to cuz my stock speakers sound soo good with my new headunit...just my 2 cents on the topic

Of course changing the head will help, in terms of if you arre adding subs to your system changing the speakers etc..

Im saying changing the headunit on a COMPLETELY STOCK Monsoon system is not gonna do much of a damn thing for ya...
